General Description
The Orange County Finance and Administrative Services Department has an opening for a Temporary Accounting Specialist.
The work is primarily responsible for performing professional accounting support functions related to accounts payable, accounts receivable, deposits, and financial reporting for multiple County departments. Responsibilities include processing and reconciling financial transactions, ensuring compliance with established procedures, preparing reports, and providing backup support for other accounting operations within the Finance Department.
Work is performed under the general supervision of the Finance Manager- Accounts Payable. The employee exercises independent judgment within established policies, local ordinances, and North Carolina General Statutes governing local government financial operations. Supervision is not a responsibility of this class although the incumbent may serve as a lead worker for specific assignments or projects. Performs related work as required.

Full Performance of Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, office administration, public administration or a related field; OR
An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined above. A higher degree does not substitute for experience.
Experience in a local government setting or banking is preferred.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver license issued by the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
All offers of employment are conditional upon successful clearance of a background check. Employment cannot commence until the employee has been cleared.
