Job description

Role Overview

Senior Software Engineer in Tactical Situational Awareness (TSA) group at Collins Aerospace. Onsite in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. U.S. citizen required. No security clearance.

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, test, and integrate software solutions for Tactical Situational Awareness avionics systems.
  • Collaborate with systems, hardware engineers, and product managers to define software requirements and deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Contribute to new product development, exploring emerging technologies and creating prototypes for future avionics systems.
  • Develop algorithms and models for realโ€‘time data fusion, visualization, and decision-support systems.
  • Ensure software meets safetyโ€‘critical requirements and complies with DOโ€‘178C and industry standards.
  • Conduct performance analysis, optimization, and meet systemโ€‘level goals for reliability, latency, and efficiency.
  • Participate in Agile development processes (sprint planning, code reviews, CI/CD pipelines).
  • Stay current with avionics, AI, and related technologies to drive innovation.
Qualifications
  • Bachelorโ€™s or advanced degree in STEM and minimum 5 years of relevant software development experience; or advanced degree and 3 years experience.
  • 5+ years experience with Ada, Java, C++, Python, or Java in embedded or hosted applications.
  • Experience in embedded systems and hosted application software development.
  • Experience with realโ€‘time, multiโ€‘threaded embedded systems, especially LynxOS and PowerPC architectures.
  • Experience with Tortoise SVN, DOORS, Eclipse, Atlassian tools (JIRA, JAMA, Bamboo, Confluence).
  • Experience with data processing, sensor integration, and humanโ€‘machine interface design.
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies and tools (JIRA, Git, Jenkins).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with ARINCโ€‘661, CORBA, MILโ€‘STDโ€‘1553, and Ethernet protocols.
  • Excellent problemโ€‘solving and collaborative teamwork skills.
  • Strong verbal/written communication and ability to mitigate risks.
  • Experience with DOโ€‘178C or other safetyโ€‘critical software development standards.
  • Background in machine learning, AI, or advanced data analytics.
  • Handsโ€‘on experience with avionics systems, flight displays, navigation systems, or communication protocols.
  • Familiarity with innovation processes (prototyping, patent writing, technology scouting).
  • Parametric estimating, bidding, project planning, and Earned Value management experience.
