Job description

Laborer Duties and Responsibilities

  • Unload tools, prepare work site materials, and set up equipment and materials
  • Follow project instructions from construction manager, supervisor or foreman
  • Know the construction/job plans short term and long term
  • Direct and/or be aware of traffic safely around the construction/job area or road maintenance site, trench and/or around equipment
  • Use all tools and equipment properly and to complete daily tasks
  • Follow all health and safety regulations when near or around equipment
  • Ensure regulated PPE and/or proper headgear, ear plugs, gloves, safety glasses, steel toe shoes/boots, and clothing are worn when required
  • Complete all assigned tasks in a timely and efficient manner
  • Assist in building scaffolding and/or temporary structures when needed
  • Safely operate a variety of tools including pressure washers, jackhammers, drills, saws, grinders, and blowtorches; pumps, and any other hand/automatic tools near or around the site
  • Prepare new construction sites by digging, moving dirt, or compacting space
  • Provide assistance to contractors/co-workers (i.e. craft workers, electricians, painters, operators, welders, etc.) as needed
  • Clean and clear all debris and/or hazardous materials
  • Ensure construction equipment and tools are cleaned and stored properly
  • Ensure work areas are left clean and properly prepped at end of work day
