What is a telemedicine veterinary?

A Telemedicine Veterinary job involves providing remote medical consultations, guidance, and follow-up care for pets through video calls, phone calls, or chat platforms. Veterinarians in this role assess symptoms, offer treatment recommendations, and determine if an in-person visit is necessary. They may also assist with prescription refills and client education. This job enhances accessibility to veterinary care, especially for minor concerns or follow-ups. It requires strong communication skills and adherence to telemedicine regulations.

What does a telemedicine veterinary do?

As a Telemedicine Veterinary professional, your day often involves conducting virtual consultations with pet owners, reviewing patient medical histories, and providing guidance on health concerns or follow-up care. You may triage cases to determine if an in-person visit is needed, prescribe medications when appropriate, and collaborate with in-clinic veterinary teams for comprehensive care. Documentation and communication with both clients and colleagues are integral parts of the role. This structure allows you to deliver high-quality veterinary care while using digital tools to support pets and their owners remotely.

What skills and qualifications are needed for a telemedicine veterinary?

To thrive as a Telemedicine Veterinary, you need a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree, state licensure, and a solid background in animal health and diagnostics. Familiarity with telemedicine platforms, digital medical records, and remote communication tools is essential. Excellent communication, problem-solving abilities, and empathy are highly valued soft skills in this position. These competencies ensure effective remote care, accurate diagnosis, and strong client relationships in a virtual veterinary setting.

Job description

Small Door is membership-based veterinary care designed with human standards that is better for pets, pet parents, and veterinarians alike. Through our membership model, we deliver exceptional care, 24/7 telemedicine, transparent pricing, and modern hospitality in thoughtfully designed, stress-free spaces.
Founded in 2019 with our flagship location in Manhattan's West Village, Small Door has quickly expanded across the East Coast.
