Job description

Reporting to the Nursing Director or Manager, this position requires thefull understanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission ofRedlands Community Hospital. It is expected the employee demonstrates behaviorconsistent with our Standards of Performance. The Charge Nurse adheres to thePatient's First Philosophy of Safety, Compassion, and Efficiency. S/he is ableto coordinate care not only for individual patients, but also to lead the caredelivery of multiple patients in the nursing care area in accordance withpolicies and procedures of the Hospital. S/he collaborates with otherprofessional disciplines/unit leaders to ensure safe and effective patient caredelivery. S/he is responsible for assigning nursing personnel to specificpatients for whom they will care for based upon their skill, experience andtemperament, and the acuity of the patients. This position serves as resourceof information and coordinates all activities within the department.Responsibilities and related duties to be carried out by the Charge Nurse asdelegated by the Nurse Manager with the appropriate level of authority andability to utilize independent judgment to ensure compliance .

EDUCATION/TRAINING/ EXPERIENCE:
1. Graduate of an accredited RegisteredNurse (RN) program required.
2. Recent appropriate nursing practice (withinpast 4 years), or evidence of nursing refresher courses preferred.
3. Experience and/or training inleadership preferred, if acting as charge nurse
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES:
1. Current license as aRegistered Nurse in the State of California.
2. Current CPR certificationrequired.
3. Current ACLS certificationrequired within 3 months of hire; required within 6 months of hire for newgraduate RN's.
4. Current PALS certificationrequired within 3 months of hire; required within 6 months of hire for newgraduate RN's.
5. NIHSS certification requiredwithin 6 months of hire.
