Library Assistant

Job Summary

Loudoun County Public Library (LCPL) is looking to fill two (2) part-time Circulation Services Library Assistant positions. One at Ashburn Library, and the other at Brambleton Library. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic, service-minded, community-oriented, and a collaborative life-long learner who embraces the library's primary role of promoting the joy of reading and learning in society. As members of an enthusiastic team, Library Assistants provide direct customer service in reference, reader's advisory and circulation functions, as well as assist customers in the use of library resources and technologies. Library Assistants plan and lead programs for children, teen and adult audiences. Successful candidates will be passionate, creative team players with excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills. All staff work in a collaborative environment to complete daily tasks, conduct programs and coordinate outreach. LCPL provides services seven (7) days a week. Work schedules vary and include weekends, evenings and holidays. Hiring salary is commensurate with experience.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma and two (2) years prior experience providing direct customer service to the public; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with Microsoft Office products preferred. Loudoun County provides a language stipend for individuals who pass a language proficiency test.

Job Contingencies and Special Requirements

Successful candidates will undergo background checks as required. Notary Public License and/or Passport Acceptance Agent certification may be required within one year of hire date. Work requires the ability to push or pull wheeled carts weighing up to 200 pounds. Some bending, reaching, walking and standing required. Ability to lift up to 40 pounds required.
