Job description

Cabinet Peaks Medical Center is looking for a Surgical Technologist to join our Surgical Services team!

Surgical technologists assist surgeons during surgical procedures by anticipating surgeon needs to make sure the procedure is executed as smoothly and efficiently as possible. The Tech prepares and organizes the operating room, clean, and sterilize equipment, and maintain a sterile environment. The Surgical Tech is part of the surgical team and work under the supervision of registered nurses or operating managers. The Surgical Technologist also assists in Central Sterile and prepares surgical equipment and ensures appropriate equipment is available for cases.

Major Job Duties & Responsibilities

Checks physician preference cards and obtains supplies and equipment needed for specific surgical procedure.

Perform surgical hand scrub according to departmental policies.

Gowns and gloves self and surgical team members using sterile technique.

Set up the sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment, and solutions needed for the procedure.

Assists with transport of patients to ancillary services and inpatient rooms. Ensures patient and staff safety by using proper techniques and equipment. Monitors department for transport needs and performs as needed.

Completes delegated patient care activities and records and reports variations on the patient record.

Gives complete and accurate report to licensed staff and Charge Nurse upon completion of tasks and duties with inclusion of abnormal findings.

Perform appropriate counts with circulator prior to the procedure and before incision is closed.

Assists with the maintenance of supplies and equipment.

Assists with draping the sterile field.

Pass instruments and supplies to the sterile surgical team member during the procedure.

Prepare sterile dressings.

Maintain the highest standard of sterile technique during the surgical procedure.

Perform terminal activities of cleaning and preparation of instruments and supplies for the Operating Room.

Stocks and maintains supplies in treatment areas and storage locations.

Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities

Possess excellent prioritization, organization, and time management skills.

Exhibit exceptionally good computer skills requiring order entry.

Operates with sound verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to work well under stressful and emergency situations.

Able to act quickly and accurately.

Advocates for patients and families and exhibits professional and therapeutic customer service skills.

Knowledge in sterile and aseptic technique.

Knowledge of sterilization supplies, equipment, and instruments.

Knowledge of organizing, containing, and transporting items of varying compounds, textures, or quantities.

Knowledge of sterilization procedures of various equipment and instruments.

Knowledge of wrapping and repackaging sterilized instruments.

Skills in using sterilization equipment and instruments.

Experience

2 years Central Sterile experience preferred, not required.

1 year Surgical Technologist experience preferred, not required.

Educational Requirements

Graduate from a Surgical Technologist Program: Certification from the Association of Surgical Technologist preferred.

BLS preferred, must obtain within 3 months of hire.

Schedule

Work hours are based on the needs of the department and may change.

Call schedule consists of rotating 24-hour call shifts. Including weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
