Job description

Do you have a library background that includes working with building/operations/facilities, administration, marketing, and/or IT? The Lincolnwood Library is seeking an experienced candidate to serve as the Deputy Director for our team of 30 staff.

This position is responsible for...

  • overseeing projects at the Director's request that help carry out the Library's strategic plan
  • planning, executing, and assessing staff training, such as Staff Development Days and safety preparedness drills and documentation
  • overseeing the managers of the Patron & Technical Services Department and Marketing & Communications Department, as well as the IT Coordinator and the outsourced facilities management vendor
  • collecting and analyzing statistical data about library services
  • assisting with the preparation of the budget
  • serving as a collaborative member of the Management Team and acting as a Person-in-Charge
Requirements

Masters in Library/Information Science from an ALA accredited institution. Three years library management experience with public library customer service experience preferred. Strong preference for candidates with experience in building/operations/facilities, administration, marketing, and IT.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Working knowledge of IT systems in the public library, including Integrated Library Systems
  • Working knowledge of HR best practices and legal issues
  • Advanced knowledge of customer service in a public library
  • Beginning knowledge of public library administration tasks such as budgeting
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Ability to coach and mentor library employees
  • Excellent computer skills in both Google and MS Office environments
  • Ability to deal calmly and effectively with a wide range of individuals, in some instances under stressful conditions
Salary & Hours

$84,000 - $105,000 DOQ for a ~37.5/hr in-person workweek. Includes working one evening per week and weekend rotations.
