Hitachi Energy is looking for a Senior External Communications Manager to join our global communications team at BU Transformers. This is a unique opportunity to shape the voice and visibility of a global business at the heart of the energy transition. As external communications lead, you will play a pivotal role in positioning both the company and its leadership as trusted, forward-looking partners in building the grids of the future. You will operate at the intersection of strategy, storytelling, and influence; working closely with senior leaders, technical experts, and regional teams to bring impactful narratives to life on a global stage. How you will make an impact:

As a senior external communications leader, you will define and elevate our global voice in a rapidly evolving energy landscape. You will shape how we are perceived by customers, media, general public and future generations, positioning both the business and its leadership at the forefront of the energy transition.

  • Lead global external communications strategy: Define and drive the external communications agenda, strengthen market visibility, suppoingrting growth priorities, and elevating innovation storytelling across regions and channels.

  • Elevate executive and leadership visibility: Own the development of high-impact, executive-level content for senior leadership, including keynote messaging, videos, social media (especially LinkedIn), press materials, and media interviews, ensuring a strong, consistent, and authentic leadership voice externally.

  • Build compelling narratives from complex topics: Translate highly technical and strategic subjects, such as energy transition, electrification, grid expansion, sustainability, and transformer technologies, into clear, engaging, and differentiated stories that resonate with external audiences.

  • Develop and align global storytelling: Partner closely with Business Unit leaders, Global Product Group teams, and regional/country communications to produce feature stories, press releases, and media content. Ensure message consistency, strategic alignment, and Business Unit validation across markets.

  • Support strategic milestones and flagship moments: Lead external communications for key business initiatives, including factory inaugurations, major investments, and key events; ensuring visibility, coherence, and strong reputational impact.

  • Act as a trusted partner in stakeholder storytelling: Support customer-facing narratives and strategic storytelling that build trust, reinforce long-term partnerships, and showcase real-world impact.

  • Lead crisis and issues communications: Anticipate, prepare for, and manage reputational risks and crisis situations. Work closely with crisis team, regional comms and business stakeholders for rapid response coordination to protect and strengthen the company's reputation globally.

Background:

You are a seasoned external communications professional who combines strategic thinking with hands-on execution. You bring a strong agency mindset, exceptional storytelling ability, and the confidence to advise senior leaders in a complex, international environment.

  • Senior experience with strong business acumen: 10+ years in external communications, corporate communications, or public relations, ideally with a mix of agency and in-house experience in global, matrixed organizations.

  • Proven expertise in media and campaign activation: Strong track record of developing and executing impactful media relations strategies and integrated campaigns across channels, with a clear understanding of how to drive visibility and engagement.

  • Outstanding writing and storytelling skills: Exceptional ability to craft clear, compelling, and audience-centric content-from executive speeches to press materials-tailored to different formats and stakeholders.

  • Strategic advisor to senior leaders: Comfortable working closely with executives, coaching and shaping their external presence, messaging, and thought leadership positioning.

  • Operational excellence and delivery focus: Highly organized and execution-driven, able to manage multiple priorities, stakeholders, and deadlines while maintaining quality and consistency.

  • Crisis communications expertise: Experienced in handling sensitive issues, managing reputational risks, and delivering clear, confident communication under pressure.

  • Strong collaboration and influencing skills: Able to work effectively across functions, geographies, and cultures, aligning diverse stakeholders around a shared communications strategy.

  • Comfort with technical and complex topics: Curious and capable of quickly understanding industrial, technological, and sustainability topics, translating them into meaningful external narratives.
