Job description

  1. Develop and manage strong relationships with student, post-doc, staff and faculty inventors as well as prospective inventors with a focus in the engineering field to support the UIC College of Engineering inventors with a focus in clean energy, additive manufacturing for biotech applications, and technology commercialization across physical sciences and engineering.ย 
  2. Provide specialized advice and counsel on technology commercialization including disclosing inventions, screening and evaluation, intellectual property, licensing, etc.
  3. Performlicensing responsibilities, including: evaluate and screen disclosures inengineering and physical sciences; identify and qualify licensees; assist withmarketing strategies and plans; draft business terms for license agreements;negotiate and execute license agreements; and management of portfolio oftechnologies in engineering and physical sciences including highly complextechnologies and issues
  4. Perform marketing responsibilities, including: independent development of and execution of marketing strategies and plans; build and manage strong industry relationships; and promote technology associated sponsored research relationships.
  5. Develop and deliver an annual Action Plan to maintain effective relationships with inventors to
    enhancethe disclosure pipeline for engineering and physical sciences and withlicensees for marketing of technologies.
  6. Develop an annual Professional Development & Improvement Plan.
  7. Actively plan and participate in conferences and seminars conducted by the University, Unit, or professional organizations.
  8. Represent the Unit at a variety of meetings in engineering, clean energy, additive manufacturing for biotech applications, and related industries involving International, National, University, State and local government officials and Industry representatives.ย 
  9. Oversee programs to further advance and promote innovation at UIC.
  10. Provide assistance to the Director, OTM, on matters as needed
  11. Lead or work with OTM staff to improve and maintain procedures for administrative efficiency, develop internal forms and systems as needed.
  12. Evaluate and screen invention disclosure reports in engineering and physical sciences for the University's strategic partners, in collaboration with such institution's technology transfer team.
  13. Develop and manage strong relationships with University engineering startups, to promote and support commercialization of University technologies and economic development.
  14. Strengthen relationships within the innovation ecosystem, both internally and externally for increased interaction among the parties.Interface with senior executives and decision makers in various industries to identify potential partnerships.
  15. When required, serve on search committees for open positions within the Unit.
  16. Work as an integral part of a team contributing to the on-going evolution of UIC OTM in its mission of commercializing University intellectual property and enhancing economic development.
  17. Represent the Office of Technology Management in periodic meetings with engineering and physical sciences academic research departments, including the College of Engineering and specifically the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Department of Physics, Department of Chemistry, Department of Computer Sciences, and related departments.
