SUMMARY: Under the general supervisionof the Professional Nurse provides direct patient care to the surgicalpatient. Maintains anorderly sterile instrument table according to hospital standard to facilitateefficiency.Assistsin positioning of patients according to department procedure.Cleansand prepares room between cases and after the last case; restocks as needed. Cleansand prepares instruments and equipment for sterilization.Keepaccurate account of medications and solutions used during a procedure.Maytransport patients to and from the patient units, operating room and PACUs.Participatesin hospital/department quality improvement activities. Perform other related dutiesas required. Performs all essential functions with consideration of theage-specific needs of the geriatric, adult, and adolescent patient. Fosters patient and family centered care andNursing services in accordance with the Brown University Health and The Miriam Hospital'smission, vision, values, with consideration of the life span, including alldevelopmental stages as well as cultural patterns.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:BASIC KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:High School Diploma or GED is requiredCompletion of at least one of the following options is required:Graduate of an accredited surgical technologist program, orGraduate of a surgical technologist associate degree program, orCurrent certification as a CST, orCurrent NCCT-TC (tech in surgery) certification (for applicants with past military experience only; military experience as a surgical technologist will be strongly considered), or3 years of experience within the past 5 years as a surgical technologistSuccessful completion of a Brown University Health on-the-job surgical technologist training programCurrent BLS Certification is required upon hire Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:None.
