Job description

Reporting to the Design Manager, you will be part of a team developing energy solutions for large business and institutional customers including fleet charging (fast charging), battery storage, solar PV and HVAC Decarbonization. This role will be an instrumental part of both early-stage projects for complex charging solutions, as well as instrumental in the on-going design development of existing large-scale projects.

This position is ideal for an Electrical EIT looking to own larger design deliverables, and playing a key role in large scale infrastructure deployment. You will be supporting multiple technical leads across varying electrification projects to support in day to day drawing development, report write-ups, design coordination, and owning first pass responses to any technical queries from clients.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Interface with both internal and external teams to gather requirements, and ensure concept designs align with the long-term vision of the client and PowerON teams.

  • Be a key coordination interface for engineer of record consultants providing initial comments, answering RFIs, and ensure senior engineers have reviewed and approved designs prior to going to client.

  • Assist in the review of engineering drawings for improvements to layout, sizing, and charger technology.

  • Assist in the review of equipment shop drawings to assist in utility coordination as well as the procurement for the projects during design, proposal stages and execution.

  • Draft drawings, in AutoCAD or Other software, for electrification infrastructure (Solar, Charging, Batteries, facility distribution etc.).

  • Perform site visits for new projects to develop initial conceptual designs and layouts to facilitate proposal development and costing on a budgetary basis.

  • Support and work through complex design decisions with multiple stakeholders.

  • Support in the development of quality control processes, standards and documentation to support companywide processes.

  • Other duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • University Degree in Electrical Engineering

  • Must be P.Eng or registered EIT with PEO for eligiblity of a P.Eng within 1-2 years.

  • 2+ years of demonstrable experience developing designs and concept layouts for electrical infrastructure.

  • Engineering/Design experience in creating SLDs and layouts for medium and high-power applications.

  • Experience with electrical infrastructure requiring utility upgrades.

  • Understanding of transformers, switchgear, protection controls, and the Ontario electrical safety code

  • Ability to lead, or be part of, a site walk-through and gather sufficient information to create proposals/SLDs/Layouts.

  • High level understanding of Battery Energy Storage, and Solar energy solutions and their respective operating structures
