Job Description

U.S. Bank is seeking a Technology Architect with strategic and influencing experience to contribute toward the success of our technology initiatives. Researches, models, and integrates business and technology architectures to align with business strategy, goals and objectives. Develops enterprise-wide conceptual technology architectures. Creates architectural principles to support business goals. Consults with business line managers and IT professionals to develop IT frameworks that support business applications. Understands and models key business capabilities, processes, relationships, and impact of technology on business goals. Formulates conceptual architectures and communicates architectural vision, goals and design objectives to multiple audiences. Develops technology strategies and roadmaps to deliver strategic business capabilities. Evaluates usefulness and makes recommendations regarding selected technologies. Participates in developing the IT vision and strategy. Consults with IT and business management regarding use of specific technologies and associated services. Identifies risks associated with current or new technology use.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end solution design, defining architecture across systems, data, and AI capabilities.

  • Translate business requirements into clear, scalable, and integrated solution designs, avoiding siloed implementations.

  • Collaborate with product owners, engineering teams, and enterprise architects to ensure alignment with architecture standards and frameworks.

  • Define and drive non-functional requirements (NFRs), including resiliency, performance, scalability, and failure handling. Own solution design strategy across initiatives, partnering with architects and senior stakeholders on architectural direction and trade-offs.

  • Develop reference architectures, reusable patterns, and blueprints, and validate designs early through hands-on engagement.

  • Evaluate technologies and vendor solutions, ensuring alignment with enterprise platforms and strategic direction.

  • Maintain a forward-looking architectural view, identifying dependencies, risks, and integration complexity early in the lifecycle.

  • Contribute to product and platform roadmaps, ensuring solutions support scalability, reuse, and long-term growth.

  • Strong expertise in designing and developing end-to-end data architectures.

  • Experience working with Azure data services (including Synapse or equivalent), Snowflake, and Databricks.

  • Familiarity with building AI-enabled applications using AWS services (e.g., Bedrock), with the ability to prototype and validate architectural designs through hands-on experimentation

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience

  • At least 10 years experience with developing and implementing applications.

  • At least 10 years experience with the concepts, philosophies and tools behind the design of applications, information and underlying information technologies.

Preferred skills

  • Deep expertise in enterprise systemsincluding payments, customer/account platforms, and identity & authentication

  • Strong experience with API-led, microservices, and event-driven architectures(REST APIs, asynchronous messaging, event streaming)

  • Proven ability designing distributed systems and cloud-native integration patterns(AWS, Azure, or GCP)

  • Hands-on experience with modern data architectures(data mesh, domain-driven design) and platforms like Databricks, Snowflake, Azure Synapse

  • Experience integrating AI/ML capabilitiesinto enterprise applications (model inference, AI services, decisioning systems)

  • Strong focus on scalability, resiliency, and high availability, including failover and disaster recovery strategies

  • Knowledge of modern UI frameworks and API-drivenexperience design, with strong frontend-backend integration understanding

  • Solid grounding in security, IAM, data protection, and compliance, plus ability to validate architectures and drive reusable design patterns

The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The actual range for the role may differ based on the location of the role. In addition to salary, U.S. Bank offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase 401(k) contribution and pension (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Pay Range: $119,765.00 - $140,900.00
