Job description

Data Center Decommissioning Technician (Contract)

Location: Sterling, VA
Pay Rate: $20 per hour
Engagement: Project-based (see timelines)
Work Setting: 100 % on-site at client offices and secure data-center facilities


What You’ll Do

  • Travel to customer sites to dismantle and decommission servers, switches, PDUs, laptops, desktops, and related hardware.
  • Safely extract devices from racks, remove drives or carriers when required, and operate shredders, degaussers, or crushers in line with strict data-destruction SOPs.
  • Scan and log each asset’s serial number, model, and tag with absolute accuracy.
  • Palletize, wrap, and stage equipment for secure shipment; assist with loading and unloading trucks.
  • Keep the work area orderly, follow all safety protocols, and present a polished, professional demeanor to the client at all times.


What You Bring

  • Hands-on experience in IT asset disposition, data-center operations, or hardware logistics is a plus.
  • Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs unassisted and performing physical tasks (standing, bending, repetitive motion) throughout the shift.
  • Familiarity with common hand tools and comfort working around sensitive electronics.
  • Meticulous attention to detail when capturing asset data and following security guidelines.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to thrive inside secure environments.


Project Schedule

  • August 3 – September 4: 8 technicians needed
  • September 8 – October 9: 5 technicians needed
  • October 13 – October 30: 5 technicians needed


Dress Code & PPE

  • Plain T-shirt or polo, jeans, and steel-toe shoes (required).
  • Preference given to applicants who already own PPE such as cut-resistant gloves and steel-toe footwear
