Temporary CWI Job Locations US-TX-La Porte Requisition ID 2026-21417 Position Type Casual Full-Time Work Schedule Status Remote Position Summary

Acuren is currently recruiting for temporary CWI's (other API certs a plus) for Turnaround/Outage/Project work across the US.

This position is part of our U.S. Workforce Deployment Team, which supports customer turnaround, outage, and project staffing needs across the country. Assignments vary in duration based on project requirements and business demand.

Responsibilities
    Perform visual welding inspections in accordance with applicable codes, standards, customer specifications, and written procedures.
  • Inspect welds, base materials, fabrication, and repairs to ensure compliance with project requirements and applicable welding codes.
  • Review Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and Welder Performance Qualifications (WPQ).
  • Verify material identification, traceability, joint preparation, fit-up, preheat, interpass temperatures, and post-weld activities.
  • Monitor welding operations to ensure compliance with approved procedures and quality requirements.
  • Identify, evaluate, and document welding discontinuities, defects, and nonconformances.
  • Prepare accurate inspection reports, weld maps, and daily inspection documentation.
  • Review fabrication drawings, engineering specifications, and quality documentation.
  • Coordinate with customers, project managers, welders, and quality personnel to resolve inspection-related issues.
  • Witness and document welder qualification testing when required.
  • Verify corrective actions and re-inspect repaired welds.
  • Ensure compliance with all company, customer, and regulatory safety requirements.
  • Support turnaround, outage, maintenance, fabrication, and capital project activities.
  • Travel to customer locations as required and work flexible schedules, including overtime, weekends, holidays, and night shifts.
Requirements Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification in good standing.
  • Minimum of 3 years of welding inspection experience in industrial, fabrication, construction, or manufacturing environments.
  • Working knowledge of welding processes including SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, and SAW.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, welding symbols, isometric drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Strong knowledge of welding inspection techniques and quality assurance practices.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain customer site access requirements.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment and client-required drug and alcohol screenings.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and electronic inspection reporting systems.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Additional NDT certifications including VT, MT, PT, UTT, PAUT, RT, or PMI.
  • Familiarity with API 510, API 570, API 653, and ASME inspection programs.
  • Experience inspecting pressure vessels, piping systems, storage tanks, structural steel, and process equipment.
  • Experience in refinery, petrochemical, pipeline, power generation, manufacturing, or heavy industrial environments.
  • Current TWIC Card.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
  • Rope Access certification (SPRAT or IRATA) preferred for applicable projects.
  • Experience with digital inspection reporting software and quality management systems.
Preferred Knowledge of Codes & Standards

Experience working with one or more of the following:

  • ASME B31.1
