Spokane Community College, part of Spokane Colleges, serves 15,000 students with career technical, liberal arts, and adult education programs in Spokane and surrounding rural communities.

About the Community Outreach Manager

JOB SUMMARY

Under the general direction of the Student Recruitment Manager, the Community Recruitment Manager serves as part of the Spokane Community College (SCC) recruitment and outreach team with a special focus on building relationships with historically marginalized communities. This position assists with providing the first steps for potential students and community members in pursuing their educational endeavors.

This position will manage the development and implementation of targeted outreach designed to recruit a diverse population of students across SCC's service region promoting both transfer and professional -technical pathways. It will leverage CRM (target x) technology, conduct presentations and attend recruiting events off campus and on campus. Join a recruiting team dedicated to meeting students where they are, one student at a time. A flexible working schedule is required as the position will require evening and weekend work.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide direct outreach support to first-generation students, students of color and low-income students creating relationships, systems and programs designed to help diverse groups of students envision college opportunities, identify career pathways, secure funding and apply to college. *
  • Work directly with identified high schools and community organizations supporting the target populations. *
  • Conduct classroom presentations, information sessions, and tabling activities at schools, community events, and partner organizations throughout the service region. *
  • Utilize the customer relationship management (CRM) system to develop communication campaigns, track engagement, manage recruitment pipelines, analyze conversion outcomes, and inform recruitment strategies. *
  • Provide one-on-one enrollment steps appointments with prospective students, as needed, to support them through the process of becoming a student at SCC. *
  • Coordinate recruiting events with College Bound Scholars, AVID Programs, Communities in Schools and Gear Up visits in collaboration with regional schools and community-based organizations. *
  • Plan, develop, organize, implement and facilitate information sessions and presentations for high schools, the general public and targeted community members. *
  • Schedule and conduct regular high school visits, and attend recruitment fairs at a variety of venues, including high schools and community service agencies. *
  • Communicate the value and opportunities available through SCC's professional-technical and transfer pathways and assist prospective students in identifying educational options aligned with their goals. *
  • Communicate both orally and in written form with prospects and their advocates about SCC's admission requirements, program offerings, basic financial aid requirements and regulations, and scholarship opportunities. *
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of SCC campus programs and opportunities of interest to prospective students and the community. *
  • Proactively organize, implement and track recruitment activities and events at various schools and organizations and keep detailed data on events attended. *
  • Provide reports pertaining to outreach & recruitment activities. *
  • Provide information via large & small group presentations, including coordination of Admission Information Sessions, Campus Tours and Next Steps Information sessions. *
  • Manage program projects, coordinate events and complete outreach activities and data entry, as needed. *
  • Provide transition workshops to assist students when transitioning from ABE/GED/ ESL courses to credit-bearing college courses. *
    • Host presentations on financial literacy and processes, and options for paying for college.
    • Professionally represent SCC to its constituents.
    • Participate in appropriate on- and off-campus committees and task forces related to outreach and recruiting activities.
    • Provide idea generation, development and publication of relevant outreach materials; track, maintain and distribute outreach materials and assist in the marketing and promotion of SCC and its programs.
    • Initiate, implement and complete projects independently and as part of a team.
  • Model professional decorum and mutual respect in all personal interactions. *
  • Comply with district policies, procedures and directives, state and federal regulations, orders and statutes and collective bargaining agreements. *
  • Support and advance the Spokane Colleges' strategic plan, and perform other duties as assigned. *

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree. Or an equivalent mix of education and experience that demonstrates the candidate meets all competency requirements for this position.
  • One or more years of outreach or related experience.
  • Experience planning and conducting presentations for diverse audiences.
  • Effective interpersonal skills with an ability to establish strong relationships and partnerships.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree.
  • Two or more years of outreach or recruitment experience.
  • Fluency in more than one language (i.e., Spanish, Russian, Japanese, etc.).
  • Experience using a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system.
  • Experience building partnerships with outside organizations and/or educational institutions.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Work requires long periods of standing and walking.
  • Work is equally performed in an office environment with frequent interruptions and outdoors in uncontrolled elements.
  • Work is both sedentary and active.
  • Work directly with students/clients.
  • Move up to 25 lbs. frequently and up to 50 lbs. occasionally. Team lifts are encouraged and to be used at the employee's discretion.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • 12-month position.
  • This position is overtime eligible.
  • Requires local or regional travel.
  • Criminal background check is required.
  • May be required to work an alternate shift, including nights and weekends.

Person hired must be able to provide acceptable documentation of U.S. Citizenship or lawful authorization to work in the United States. This is an absolute condition of employment. In addition, the Spokane Colleges maintain a drug-free work environment and prohibits all smoking in the college buildings and state-owned vehicles. Must be able to successfully work in and promote a multicultural work and education environment.

Benefits Information

This is a contracted, exempt management position. Medical, dental life and long term disability insurance benefits are provided as currently administered under the Public Employees Benefits Board; TIAA retirement plan or WA State Dept. of Retirement Systems Pension Plan. Vacation leave accrues at the rate of 14.67 hours per month (22 days per year) and sick leave accrues at the rate of 8 hours per month, effective upon employment. (For positions that are less than full time, leave accruals will be prorated to the percentage of the position.
