Job Description

The Senior Proofreader is responsible for ensuring the absolute accuracy, consistency, and compliance of complex technical documents, datasets, and reports. This role goes beyond standard proofreading to include rigorous verification of numerical data, cross-referencing technical specifications, and ensuring alignment between visual data (charts/graphs) and source materials.

Candidate will work predominately remotely, but will need to come into Chicagoland site from time to time. Preference is for a candidate in the Chicagoland area.


Key Responsibilities

  • Data Integrity: Confirm that all proofs accurately represent underlying data, verifying that values in the text match source business rules.
  • Brand &Style Compliance: Ensure all proofs remain consistent with established brand messaging and approved client specific templates. Review content forspelling, grammar, syntax, and/or punctuation
  • Visual Data Audit: Confirm that charts, infographics, and diagrams accurately represent the underlying data and are labeled correctly.
  • Version Control: Manage document iterations to ensure that all requested edits have been integrated and no "legacy errors" persist.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • 1 year professional experience.
  • Minimum 3-5 years in technical editing, data validation, or a specialized QC role.
  • Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail are mandatory.
  • Basic understanding of brand guidelines/style rules and strong organizational skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Physical Demands: The role primarily involves sitting, with occasional standing, walking, twisting, or bending. Must be able to push/pull light loads (5-10 lbs).
  • Travel: Possible travel to R.R. Donnelley Corporate or other facilities may be required.

Additional Information

The salary range for this role at the noted RRD location is $20.38 - $28.83 / hour. Starting pay decisions are determined based on multiple factors including but not limited to relevant education, qualifications, skills, experience, certifications, proficiency, performance, shift, location, and other business needs. Typically, roles follow step progressions to a target rate or set increments over time. Depending on the role, in addition to the hourly rate of pay, the total compensation package may also include overtime, shift differential, call-in, and/or stand-by pay. RRD's benefit offerings include medical, dental, and vision coverage, paid time off, disability insurance, 401(k) with company match, life insurance and other voluntary supplemental insurance coverages, plus parental leave, adoption assistance, tuition assistance and employer/partner discounts.
