Location:  Amite BioEnergy & Port of Baton Rouge

 

 
The Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Manager will provide overall management at the designated location on safety, environmental, health, risk, and other compliance issues, as well as being expected to contribute at the facility level to identify priorities and recommend solutions to support the overall business objectives. This position reports to the Vice President of HSE and partner directly with the site leadership team.

Some of your day-to-day duties as an HSE Manager

 

  •  Foster a โ€œSafety Firstโ€ culture with a โ€œZero Harmโ€ mindset.
  • Support and implement the company safety culture, policies, and procedures
  • Oversee risk assessment and risk mitigation measures on-site and before commencement of projects
  • Undertake corrective and preventive measures to ensure a proper environment and health for the organizationโ€™s sites
  • Create proposals for corrective or preventive measures, and investigate, analyze, and regularly review accidents or near misses within the organization
  • Through strong leadership and example, ensure that the companyโ€™s Safety policies are met at site level
  • Ensures that work safety permits are enforced as necessary at all sites
  • Ensure employees are properly informed about the working, environmental and safety policies of the organization.
  • Encourages teamwork at all levels of the organization, particularly across functions, and empowers individuals to contribute
  • Foster an environment of data-driven continuous improvement for all aspects of the departments.
  • Engage all department employees in safety issues and set high personal standards through a highly visible, hands-on management style
  • Through written policy and procedures, ensure that regular emergency response is effective and that managers and employees are always prepared,
  • Manage key external interfaces including prime responsibility for OSHA, consultants, legislation and where appropriate local community representatives
  • Maintain safety statistics and create reports that reflect the performance of the site to relevant parties such as upper management
  • Responsible for the implementation of DBI Safety policy and safety documentation at designated location
  • In concert with the VP of HSE, responsible for driving continuous improvements in safety performance across designated location
  • Assists in the development of DBI management systems and partnering with the site team develop site level risk assessments and operating procedures.
  • Coordinates with operations, engineering & maintenance departments; interfaces with HR concerning Health policy development and implementation
  • Responsible for adherence to budgeted financial management/controls of all safety activities

Knowledge, Skills and Experience required:

 

  •  Min of 10 years in a safety management role.
  • A Bachelorโ€™s degree in fields such as safety/environmental sciences, occupational health and safety management, environmental health, environmental engineering or public health is preferred
  • One to two yearsโ€™ experience in operations, maintenance and engineering
  • A credible strong leader with the ability to communicate at all levels of the organization
  • Strong team working ethic with the ability to travel between sites and respond during off hours in the event of an incident onsite.
  • The ability to climb ladders, stairs, and work outside in all environments.
  • Experience conducting varies training classes
  • Ability to mentor, coach, encourage, hold people accountable and set high standards in all aspects of the departmentโ€™s work
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to apply sound business and commercial knowledge in the production arena.
  • The ability to develop technical documents
  • Certification by OSHA is a plus
