Job description

Position Summary:
The Technical Project Manager is responsible for establishing project teams and providing overall direction for assigned technical projects - related to infrastructure or software - from initiation through delivery. They perform requirements definition, estimation, and budget management, formulate project scope and delivery strategies, establish milestones and schedules, maintain and report project status and monitor the progress of all team members.
Working alongside the project team members, the Technical Project Manager may directly contribute to the project by gathering required data from end users, creating technical specifications and serving as the liaison between technical and non-technical departments.
This role indirectly manages internal and external resources to ensure successful completion of technical projects, keeping leadership informed of key issues that may impact completion, budget or other results.
As an experienced, disciplined and self-motivated manager, the incumbent must thrive in a fast-paced environment, be client-focused, team-oriented, and able to execute in a way that encourages creativity, collaboration and continuous improvement.
Primary Accountabilities:
  • Project Management
    • Apply knowledge of project management principles, tools, and processes to lead assigned technical project(s)
    • Consult with stakeholders and designated project team members to determine the scope, budget, resources and timeline of the project, and gain approval to launch the effort
    • Coordinate requirements definition, perform effort and time estimations, and establish appropriate budget management
    • Collaborate with the project team to formulate project scope and delivery strategies, establish milestones and schedules
    • Complete the project schedule and work breakdown structure to estimate effort and duration of project tasks
    • confirm assignment of resources and validate completion date targets for project tasks
    • Actively manage the resources assigned to the team and monitor the progress of work
    • Coordinate with cross-functional teams within the organization to ensure all functional areas have been addressed
    • may serve as the liaison between technical and non-technical departments
    • Effectively manage project scope by ensuring any changes are documented, vetted, and approved via a clearly defined change management process
    • Ensure problems, issues, and risks that may affect project goals are identified, documented, and resolved
    • Ensure processes are in place for effective communication, testing, training and documentation, go-live and transition activities to occur throughout the project lifecycle
    • Track and report project status and key metrics to project stakeholders regularly
    • Complete post-project evaluation to determine how well results were achieved and provide insight for improvement to future delivery of projects
  • Strategic
    • Partner with stakeholders to fully understand business requirements to build the business case (if applicable), including valuation of the project, in order to secure appropriate project level prioritization, staffing, and funding as necessary
    • Work cross-functionally with the enterprise in mind for all projects as assigned
    • Manage multiple tasks and responsibilities in a fast-paced environment
  • Influence
    • Understand a broad group of perspectives and requirements from multiple stakeholders gain alignment to deliver an end-to-end solution that meets the needs of the collective group
    • Work to gain and maintain credibility with business leaders and key stakeholders to ensure ongoing collaboration and effective communication
    • Demonstrate a growing knowledge and application of skills and product knowledge

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelors in business, technology or a related field required
  • 4-6 years of related work experience in project management, utilizing either Agile or Waterfall methodologies with a minimum of 3 years managing projects of a technical nature; or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities needed for this position required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate with confidence, clarity, and focus; able to convey concepts and considerations to non-technical and technical experts alike
  • Leadership skills with the ability to collaborate and build relationships across organizations, bridge gaps between teams, and successfully influence without authority
  • Advanced knowledge/use of Microsoft and Google Suites
  • Industry experience within financial services, logistics, CPG manufacturer or Retailer, a plus
  • General knowledge of key technical areas, such as Service Desk, Network, Internet, Server, Database, Cloud, Software Engineering
  • Conceptual understanding of Configuration Management Database
  • Lean Six Sigma Yellow, Green or Black Belt preferred
  • Portfolio Management Professional (PMP) preferred
  • Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) preferred
