Position Overview:

The Master Data Operations Manager is responsible for leading the day-to-day operations of the Master Data function, ensuring high-quality, accurate, and reliable data that supports critical business processes across global manufacturing and distribution operations.

This role will define, manage, and continuously improve processes governing the creation, maintenance, and governance of master data. The Manager will lead a team of data subject-matter experts and analysts, oversee master data tools and platforms, establish metrics, and drive continuous improvement in data quality, efficiency, and customer service.

Key Responsibilities: 

Master Data Operations

  • Lead daily Master Data operations, including execution of processes for master data creation, maintenance, and updates
  • Define, document, and continuously improve standardized master data processes with a focus on efficiency, accuracy, quality, and customer service
  • Establish and publish operational metrics, set performance targets, and drive continuous improvement initiatives
  • Oversee and optimize the use of master data tools and technologies, including SAP, STIBO/STEP (PIM), Winshuttle, and RPA solutions
  • Partner closely with IT teams to monitor, troubleshoot, and improve data flows and integrations across systems

Data Quality & Governance

  • Establish and enforce master data standards, governance policies, and procedures to ensure data integrity across systems
  • Define, track, and report data quality metrics; lead data cleansing and remediation efforts in collaboration with stakeholders
  • Maintain a centralized data documentation repository, including data dictionaries, field definitions, and business rules
  • Support training and enablement of business stakeholders on master data standards and processes
  • Drive enterprise data governance initiatives, including identifying data owners, facilitating governance councils, and improving stakeholder engagement

Team & Resource Management

  • Lead and develop a team of employees, contractors, and third-party service providers to ensure service levels and operational coverage
  • Plan and manage resource allocation to support business priorities
  • Attract, hire, develop, and retain high-performing team members
  • Support career development through coaching, feedback, and meaningful development plans
  • Manage third-party vendors and service providers to ensure performance against defined SLAs and metrics
  • Communicate effectively with cross-functional partners and leadership

Innovation & Continuous Improvement

  • Serve as a subject-matter expert in Master Data Management operations and governance best practices
  • Identify performance gaps and lead process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and data quality
  • Stay current on industry trends and emerging technologies in MDM, contributing to IT strategy and roadmap discussions
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and improvement

Leadership and Communication: 

  • Lead with clarity, accountability, and integrity while modeling company values
  • Communicate complex data concepts in a clear, practical manner to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Build strong, trusted relationships across IT, Operations, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, and Commercial teams
  • Influence and align stakeholders around data standards, governance practices, and process improvements
  • Provide regular updates to leadership on performance metrics, risks, and improvement initiatives
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive team environment that encourages feedback, learning, and continuous improvement
  • Coach and mentor team members to strengthen technical capabilities, ownership, and professional growth

Expected Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in information systems, Data Management, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience in Master Data Management, with a strong background in SAP Master Data within a global environment.
  • 3+ years of people leadership experience, managing internal and/or external teams.
  • Functional experience with Product Information Management (PIM) systems, including product data workflows and workflow governance.
  • Working knowledge of eCommerce platforms and product catalog data integration.
  • Proven ability to establish standardized data processes, governance frameworks, and SLAs.
  • Hands-on, detail-oriented approach with a passion for operational excellence.
  • Familiarity with integration concepts (APIs, middleware, batch processing) connecting ERP, PIM, and eCommerce systems.

Preferred Skills & Qualifications: 

    • Experience with SAP S/4 MDG and/or STIBO STEP workflow configurations.
    • Knowledge of product taxonomy, attribute modeling, and product lifecycle management.
    • Background in manufacturing, retail, or eCommerce-driven organizations.
    • Lean Six Sigma or equivalent process improvement certification.

    Work Location & Schedule: 

    • This is a hybrid position based out of our corporate office in Schaumburg, IL. The expectation for this role is to work onsite three (3) days per week and remotely two (2) days per week.

    Pre-Employment Requirement: 

    • Employment offers are contingent upon successful completion of a drug screen and background check. This requirement is especially critical for safety-sensitive roles.

    The annual base salary range for this position is $135,000 - $155,000. The actual pay will be determined based on factors such as location, experience, skills, and qualifications. In addition to the base salary, employees may be eligible for discretionary bonuses and a comprehensive benefits package.
