Saint John Theatre Company is hiring a Technical Director and Facilities ManagerThis is a full-time position in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada.Technical Director and Facilities ManagerA vital member of the SJTC team, providing the technical support and upkeep of our facilities, including a 100-seat theatre, rehearsal studios, and office space. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the Technical Director and Facilities Manager will work closely with the Production Manager (PM).Tasks include supervision and management of technical and aspects of many of the activities of the company as well as oversight of maintenance, security and upkeep of the BMO Studio facility and other leased facilities as required.The SJTC staff works in a very collaborative way, and though each staff member has specific roles and responsibilities, we do support one another as needed.Specific responsibilities include:TECHNICAL DIRECTIONServe as the primary technical operator for the event space and its building spaces, and act as the lead manager for hired crew and staff as needed.Manage technical aspects of events, rentals, and productions as required by the PM, including oversight of technicians and scheduling.In consultation with the PM, plan and maintain the production schedules and scheduled activities (installs, tech, opening, closing, and strikes/returns, etc.) for each production and schedule build times for shops and stage crews, including volunteers.FACILITIES MANAGEMENTPrimary responsibility to track building condition and prioritize small, medium, and large facility projects.Arrange for and implement building repairs or renovations.Oversee building maintenance and manage maintenance contracts & janitorial staff.Repair, maintain, and update theatrical infrastructure.Oversee adherence to all health and safety guidelines within the building.Authorize, clarify, and estimate costs for crew and other technical expenses for rental clients.Qualifications and ExperienceKnowledge and experience with Technical Direction for live performances, including pre-production, onsite coordination, and post-event evaluation.Hands-on experience operating and troubleshooting core technical disciplines for live events: audio, lighting, video, staging, and basic rigging.Experience executing and engaging with technical riders, lighting plots, ground plans, stage plots, and input lists.Ability to collaborate effectively with venue technicians, touring crews, artists, and production vendors.Strong interpersonal and oral/written communication skills, with excellent attention to detail.High level of organization and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.Demonstrated initiative and ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.Proficiency in CAD/Vectorworks for interpreting and creating technical drawings.Proficiency with standard office software: Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word, Google Docs.Curiosity and flexibility to support innovative or emerging technical processes and production methods.CompensationThis is a permanent full-time employment position with a salary commensurate with experience. The position includes participation in SJTC's health benefits package. Frequent evening and weekend work is required, particularly during the run of shows.Salary Range: $44,000-50,000Education and ExperienceFormal training or acceptable combination of equivalent experience in Technical Production, Technical Theatre, Production and Design or equivalent program.Experience in a technical theatre or technical management capacity (we are willing to offer an opportunity to a capable recent graduate provided they demonstrate knowledge, exceptional dedication and willingness to lead).Experience working with a variety of live performances including theatre, dance, and festivals.How to applyCover letter and resume - in PDF format as an attachment, not a link, and include two references - phone number and e-mail for each.The deadline to apply is OPEN.
