Job description

Your Opportunity
At Schwab, you're empowered to make an impact on your career. Here, innovative thought meets creative problem solving, helping us "challenge the status quo" and transform the finance industry together.
We believe in the importance of in-office collaboration and fully intend for the selected candidate for this role to work on site in the specified location(s). This role is expected to be in the office 4 days a week.
Schwab Technology Services enables the future of how clients manage their money by providinginnovative and reliable technology products and services as part of our ongoing commitment to democratize access to investing and financial planning.
As a DevOps Technical Lead, you will play a critical role in advancing modern software engineering practices, strengthening CI/CD reliability and standardization, and accelerating engineering productivity through responsible adoption of AI-assisted development and automation. This role combines hands-on technical leadership with strategic influence, partnering across Engineering, Security, Risk/Compliance, and Operations to deliver secure, scalable, and repeatable releases in a highly regulated environment.
You will lead the design and continuous improvement of CI/CD pipelines and automation workflows, ensuring consistency, auditability, and operational readiness throughout the software development lifecycle. By embedding quality gates, automated testing, and security controls directly into delivery pipelines, you will improve release confidence while reducing risk. You will also enhance the developer experience by creating reusable templates, enabling self-service delivery patterns, and coaching engineers to adopt best practices in workflow automation, testing, and system design.
In this role, you will contribute directly to production-grade code, guide architecture decisions, and mentor engineers to strengthen technical capabilities across teams. You will work collaboratively with cross-functional partners to align on delivery priorities, resolve complex challenges, and continuously improve system reliability, scalability, and maintainability. Your ability to apply analytical thinking, problem-solving, and sound decision-making will be essential in driving outcomes that improve speed, quality, and resilience across the engineering ecosystem.
As a Technical Lead, you will own the end-to-end CI/CD experience-from build and test through promotion and deployment-by establishing standardized, governed pipeline patterns that are secure, reliable, scalable, and audit-ready. You'll accelerate delivery outcomes by embedding quality gates, security scanning, and automation-first practices, while also advancing responsible AI adoption to improve engineering throughput.
AI experience in software delivery contexts (e.g., AI-assisted development workflows, AI-enabled automation, or practical exposure to tools such as AI coding assistants), with a focus on safe usage and guardrails.
What you have
To ensure that we fulfill our promise of "challenging the status quo," this role has specific qualifications that successful candidates should have
Required Qualifications:
  • 7+ years of experience in software engineering and/or platform engineering, including demonstrated technical leadership (e.g., Technical Lead, Lead Engineer, or Senior Engineer owning major systems)
  • 1-2 years Ai software development experience, such as GitHub CoPilot.
  • Proven expertise in building and operating CI/CD pipelines, including workflow automation, environment management, release orchestration, and quality gate implementation
  • Experience with modern DevOps toolchains such as GitHub-based workflows, artifact management, feature flagging, and automated testing platforms
  • Strong proficiency in software development lifecycle (SDLC) practices, including pipeline authoring, testing strategies, and code quality standards
  • Hands-on development experience in at least one major programming stack (e.g., Java or C#/.NET), with strong fundamentals in application development, design patterns, and code review practices
  • Practical experience integrating secure SDLC practices, including implementing security controls such as secrets scanning, policy-based checks, and automated compliance validations
  • Demonstrated ability to apply analytical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills to improve system reliability, scalability, and delivery outcomes
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams and translate technical concepts into business impact

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working in a regulated environment with exposure to audit, risk, compliance, or change management processes
  • Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code and cloud delivery patterns (e.g., Terraform, cloud platforms, or platform-as-a-service environments)
  • Experience leveraging AI-assisted development tools or coding assistants and contributing to team-level best practices for responsible and effective adoption

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without employer sponsorship.
In addition to the salary range, this role is also eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities
