Job description

OVERVIEW
Job Title: Minnesota Semiconductor AI Hub- Semiconductor Test AI Intern
Location:St. Paul
Pay Rate:
a) $25/hour (Graduate Research Intern)
b) $21/hour (Undergraduate Research Intern)
Hours: up to 20 hrs per week
The Minnesota Semiconductor AI Hub is a collaborative initiative between the University of St. Thomas College of Engineering and local semiconductor manufacturing companies, including Seagate, SkyWater Technology, and Polar Semiconductor. The Hub focuses on developing data-driven and AI-powered solutions to shared manufacturing challenges with the goal of advancing capabilities that benefit the broader Minnesota semiconductor industry.
The Hub is seeking one motivated student intern to help drive rollout of AI inside production and enterprise systems. You will work alongside Hub's industry partner Polar Semiconductor and Electrical & Computer Engineering faculty on applied projects with direct relevance to partner company operations. This is a year-long role for upper level undergraduate students (must have completed at least ENGR 345 Electronics I) or a graduate student in Electrical & Computer Engineering program. This is a hands-on opportunity to contribute to real engineering problems at the intersection of artificial intelligence and semiconductor manufacturing. This position will be based out of the St. Paul Campus but occasionally may require travel to our industry partner location in the Twin Cities.
The MN AI Hub partner Polar Semiconductor is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All accepted applications must be a U.S. citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Electrical Engineering: Learn and understand electrical test processes.
  • Agentic Programming: Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code.
  • Output Evaluation: Evaluate tester performance using appropriate metrics.
  • Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams: Participate in team meetings, contribute ideas, and learn from experienced professionals.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required Qualifications:
Education: Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering or have a completed BSEE or BSCpE degree and currently pursuing a graduate progam in the College of Engineering in any field.
• Technical Skills:
o Comfortable with modern electronic device principles (Diode, MOSFET, BJT, JFET, IGBT, etc.).
o Experienced with C, Python, or other programming languages.
o Knowledgeable about solid state physics.
o Familiarity with semiconductor processing is a plus.
• Soft Skills:
o Strong problem-solving abilities.
o Ability to work independently on tasks while being comfortable seeking guidance when needed.
o Able to work effectively with others.
