SUMMARY:

The Technical Writer I will work directly with the Government personnel in meeting the writing requirements of the project.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Collaborates with engineers, analysts, and other professionals to ensure clarity and consistency in the documentation process. Develops, writes, formats, and edits technical documentation such as test plans, reports, standards, and proposals. Prepares documents for final publication in electronic media/format, ensures proper organization, clarity, and coherence. Reviews and edits technical documents, ensures accuracy, consistency, and adherence to established formats and standards. Collaborates with subject matter experts to assure correct technical interpretation and content accuracy. Researches background materials for similarities with previously published documents to ensure conformity with established formats and precedents. Provides technical guidance and support for document preparation, ensures that documents meet quality standards. Assists in the creation of technical illustrations and audiovisual presentations using desktop publishing systems. Revises or writes standardized material for reports, manuals, briefs, proposals, instruction books, catalogs, and related technical and administrative publications concerned with work methods and procedures, and installation, operation, and maintenance of machinery and other equipment. Receives technical direction from supervisor or senior writer, notes or manuals containing operating procedures and details manufacturer's catalogs, drawings and other data relative to operation, maintenance, and service of equipment. Accesses to blueprints, sketches, drawings, parts lists, specifications, mockups, and product samples to integrate and delineate technology, operating procedure, and production sequence and detail. Organizes material and completes writing assignment according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology. Maintains records and files of work and revisions, select photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illustrate material. Assists in laying out material for publication arrange for typing, duplication and distribution of material. Assists in writing speeches, articles, and public or employee relations releases. Specializes in writing material regarding work methods and procedures. Provides technical editing for test related documentation. Supports the development of technical documentation (e.g., operations and maintenance manuals, training materials, systems specifications, checklists, procedures, and master task listings. Develops technical documentation from rough drawings and sketches, incomplete documentation, or documentation in foreign languages. Performs other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, AND LICENSURE:

High school diploma or equivalent is required. Some college coursework in English, technical writing, or a related field is desired. Editing and proofreading skills, with the ability to identify and correct errors in grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Demonstrated ability to adhere to document formatting and layout principles. Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with engineers and other technical staff. Demonstrated attention to detail to ensure accuracy and completeness in all documents and adherence to configuration management requirements. Prior experience in a technical writing or editing role preferred. Familiarity with T&E documentation and procedures preferred.

WORK AUTHORIZATION/SECURITY CLEARANCE:

DoD Secret or higher security clearance, or the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance. U.S. Citizenship is required.
