Our Opportunity: 

Chewy is looking for an Software Development Manager to join our Fullfillment Center Technology & Science team in Seattle. As an engineering leader of a diverse and dynamic team, you will build and scale applications, data platforms, and frameworks that support and optimize Chewy’s fulfillment center operations. In this role, you will leverage your technical expertise and strong leadership to deliver robust, high-quality engineering system aligned with business objectives. Additionally, you will lead the engineering team and work closely with cross-functional partners to design and deliver a next-generation data platform, addressing critical challenges across our fulfillment center operations.

What You’ll Do: 

  • Lead and manage a Software Engineering team, consisting of 5+ Team Members of various experience levels 

  • Drive priorities, technical decisions, delivery, continuous improvement, and support of current and future projects. 

  • Define and advocate for guidelines in software development, testing, deployment, and production support. 

  • Define and champion operational excellence that enable system observability and alarming.  Continuously measure system availability and optimize system performance. 

  • Lead and Communicate technical designs, technology strategy, and priorities to other technical teams and senior management. 

  • Collaborate with multi-functional teams, including scientists, product managers, and operations customers, to deliver effective solutions that meet business objectives. 

  • Manage Team Members’ growth, deliver feedback and direction, and provide opportunities that fit their career path. 

What You’ll Need: 

  • Bachelor's Degree (Computer Science, Engineering or related field) or equivalent work experience. 

  • 5+ years of professional software development experience. 

  • 2+ years of experience in people leadership of a software development team. 

  • Ability to program in Java, Python, or other related modern programming language. 

  • Ability to build highly scalable, distributed systems using cloud-native technologies such as AWS, Azure, or GCP. 

  • Ability to simultaneously support multiple high priority projects in a fast-paced environment. 

  • Proven ability to mentor and grow Team Members at different career stages. 

  • Established track record of implementing with urgency and guiding teams to resolve complex technical challenges within tight timelines.  

Bonus:  

  • Experience developing and maintaining end-to-end customer-facing web applications. 

  • Experience with Data platform, Data lake, Lakehouse and Machine Learning pipelines.  

The base salary range for this role is $148,500 - $225,000.00.
  • The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to the candidate’s relevant experience, education, and work location. In addition, this position is eligible for 401k and a new hire and annual equity grant. C08+ positions may also be eligible for annual bonus.
