Job description

Edgewater Technical Associates is seeking qualified candidates for an Electrical Designer opportunity in Oak Ridge, TN.
Position Overview:
We are seeking an Electrical Designer to support the design and development of electrical power, instrumentation, and control systems for a specialized industrial process and manufacturing facility. This position will be responsible for developing detailed electrical design packages, construction drawings, and equipment layouts that support automated industrial equipment and process systems.
The successful candidate will work closely with electrical, mechanical, process, and controls engineers to produce high-quality design deliverables from conceptual design through construction, startup, and commissioning.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop detailed electrical design drawings including single-line diagrams, panel layouts, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, conduit layouts, grounding plans, and installation details.
  • Create and maintain 2D and 3D electrical models and construction drawing packages using AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, Revit, or similar design software.
  • Support the design and integration of power distribution, motor controls, instrumentation, and automation systems for industrial equipment and process facilities.
  • Develop layouts for electrical equipment including control panels, switchgear, motor control centers (MCCs), variable frequency drives (VFDs), instrumentation, and associated field devices.
  • Coordinate electrical designs with mechanical, process, instrumentation, controls, and facility disciplines.
  • Prepare bills of material, equipment lists, cable schedules, and construction documentation.
  • Incorporate engineering calculations, specifications, vendor information, and design standards into drawing packages.
  • Perform design reviews, model coordination, and interference checks to support constructability and installation.
  • Support field walkdowns, construction activities, drawing revisions, startup, commissioning, and as-built documentation.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, quality requirements, and company drafting practices.

Qualifications:
  • Associate degree, technical degree, or equivalent experience in Electrical Design, Drafting, Engineering Technology, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in industrial electrical design, controls design, automation systems, manufacturing facilities, process facilities, or related industries.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, Revit, EPLAN, or similar electrical design software.
  • Experience producing electrical construction drawings and installation packages.
  • Familiarity with industrial power distribution systems, motor controls, instrumentation, and automation equipment.
  • Knowledge of electrical equipment including motors, VFDs, MCCs, switchgear, instrumentation, sensors, and control panels.
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, equipment specifications, and engineering calculations.
  • Understanding of NEC requirements and industrial electrical design practices.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
