They often serve as a bridge between technical staff and non-technical stakeholders, translating business needs into actionable technical specifications. This cross-functional interaction is essential for ensuring that technology initiatives support broader business objectives and are implemented effectively. Being proactive in communication and building strong relationships across departments helps Technical Analysts drive successful projects and resolve issues efficiently.

Job description

Technical Systems Analyst
Category: Software Development/ Engineering
Main location: United States, Rhode Island, Smithfield
Position ID:J0726-1471
Employment Type: Full Time
Position Description:
We're seeking a highly technical Systems Analyst/Technical Analyst to support the modernization of a legacy application and contribute to the design of new, scalable system capabilities. You'll work directly with engineering, product, and business partners to break down complex problems, define precise system requirements, and influence technical design decisions across multiple platforms.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in deep system analysis, understands distributed architectures, and can anticipate technical constraints before they become blockers.
This position must be performed on-site in Smithfield, RI.
Your future duties and responsibilities:
. Translate business requirements into clear, structured system specifications, including data flows, integration points, and functional behaviors.
. Produce system diagrams, sequence flows, interface definitions, and state models to support engineering design.
. Analyze existing platforms, APIs, services, and data contracts to identify dependencies, constraints, and opportunities for optimization.
. Identify technical risks early and propose preemptive design strategies to mitigate them.
. Work with engineering teams to define service boundaries, modular components, and interaction patterns across a 3 tier or distributed architecture.
. Support modernization efforts by decomposing legacy functionality into clean, maintainable, and scalable system components.
. Plan deliverables with an engineering lens, identifying opportunities for AI assisted acceleration in analysis, documentation, or testing.
. Contribute to multiple concurrent system designs, ensuring consistency, clarity, and alignment with engineering standards..
. Validate that system requirements align with performance, reliability, and security expectations.
. Collaborate closely with UX designers, business analysts, and developers to ensure end to end coherence across the solution.
Required qualifications to be successful in this role:
. 10+ years translating business needs into detailed system requirements and technical specifications.
. 6+ years analyzing and designing distributed, modular systems across 3 tier or service based architectures.
. 3+ years working in Agile environments with iterative delivery cycles.
. Strong understanding of system decomposition, integration patterns, API behaviors, and data flow modeling.
. Ability to analyze and document platform interactions, service dependencies, and cross system impacts.
. Experience with Dev Assist tools (e.g., diagramming, modeling, documentation accelerators).
. Comfortable partnering with UX designers, business analysts, and engineering leads to shape end to end system behavior.
. High ownership mindset - drives assigned work to completion with minimal oversight.
. Adaptable and able to quickly learn new domains, technologies, and architectural patterns.
Education Required: Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field.
WHO YOU ARE:
You think in systems. You break down complexity into structured, actionable components. You anticipate technical challenges before they surface and design solutions that scale. You communicate clearly - visually, verbally, and in writing - and you thrive in environments where modernization, speed, and precision matter. You're comfortable contributing to multiple designs at once and enjoy working at the intersection of business needs and engineering realities.
