What is tech sales?

Tech sales refers to the process of selling technology products or services, such as software, hardware, or IT solutions, to businesses or consumers. Professionals in tech sales identify customer needs, demonstrate product benefits, and help clients make informed purchasing decisions. The role often requires strong communication skills, a deep understanding of technology, and the ability to build relationships with clients. Tech sales can be highly rewarding with opportunities for career growth and attractive commission structures.

How does a tech sales professional typically collaborate with product and engineering teams to address client needs?

Tech Sales professionals often work closely with product and engineering teams to ensure they fully understand the technical features and capabilities of the solutions they sell. When clients present specific requirements or challenges, sales professionals relay this feedback to product and engineering, facilitating tailored demonstrations or customizations. This collaboration helps ensure that client expectations are met and that the solutions offered align with real-world business needs. Regular cross-functional meetings and open communication are essential parts of this collaborative process.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a tech sales professional, and why are they important?

To thrive in Tech Sales, you need a solid understanding of technology products, strong sales acumen, and often a bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or a related field. Familiarity with CRM platforms like Salesforce, sales automation tools, and sometimes certifications in specific technologies or sales methodologies are typically required. Exceptional communication, relationship-building, and negotiation skills help you stand out in engaging clients and closing deals. These skills and tools are crucial for effectively identifying customer needs, managing complex sales cycles, and driving revenue growth in a competitive tech market.

What you should know about our team:
At ADT, our Sales team is at the heart of everything we do. We're not just selling security systems, we're helping protect what matters most. Whether it's a family home or a small business, our sales professionals are trusted advisors who bring peace of mind to customers across the country.
What you will do:
As a Resale Sales Representative, you are not starting from scratch; you are reactivating interest and rebuilding trust with customers who already know ADT. That's a powerful head start! These customers represent one of ADT's strategic growth opportunities, and you will be at the forefront of re-introducing modern solutions that better meet this customer segment's needs. You will:
  • Re-engage previous customers, not cold-calling strangers. That means shorter sales cycles, higher conversion rates, and real potential to build lasting relationships.
  • Provide personalized solutions that combine security, automation, and life safety features, all tailored to their space and lifestyle.
  • Deliver compelling sales presentations and proposals to prospects, emphasizing the unique benefits and advantages of our products and services compared to competitors.
  • Conduct post-installation follow-ups with customers to confirm that commitments were fulfilled and to generate referrals.
  • Cultivate new business opportunities: identify and generate new sales leads to maximize outreach.

What you need to be successful:
We're looking for self-motivated, tech-savvy individuals who are passionate about helping others and driven to succeed. If you thrive on connection, enjoy solving problems, and want to make a real impact while growing your career, you'll fit right in.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Willing to travel within a designated territory using your own vehicle (mileage reimbursed).
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record required; additional licensing may be needed based on location.
  • Comfortable using technology to stay organized, efficient, and accountable in a fast-paced sales environment.
  • Self-motivated and results-driven, with an entrepreneurial mindset; you thrive on uncovering new leads and closing deals that deliver real value.
  • Strong communicator and natural relationship builder, able to consult with customers, understand their needs, and guide them to the right solution.
  • Adaptable and flexible; you excel in dynamic environments and enjoy learning new systems and approaches.
  • Consumer sales experience is preferred but not required.

How ADT invests in you:
Compensation: Unlimited earning potential with uncapped commissions. Based upon performance, new sales advisors can expect to earn $105,000, while experienced sales advisors can earn over $150,000.
Additional Pay: We equip you with specialized training and the tools you need to meet your financial goals. For your first 8 weeks of training, you'll earn up to $4,000.
Benefits:
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Tuition reimbursement
  • Mileage reimbursement
  • Short- and long-term disability, life insurance, and well-being programs
  • Paid time off
  • Culture of professional development and career growth opportunities
  • Flexible work schedule to accommodate you and your customers' needs

Why you'll love working here:
  • We boldly shape the future, embracing change, taking smart risks, and continuously improving to create the best experiences.
  • We lead by taking ownership, empowering you to make decisions, solve problems proactively, and support each other with empathy.
  • We elevate to serve a greater purpose, going above and beyond to earn trust, celebrate wins, and value every perspective.
  • We unite and win together, fostering teamwork, breaking down silos, and achieving shared goals through inclusivity and collaboration.
