Summary:
The Technical Sales Specialist (TSM) serves as the technical sales resource supporting Flow Management Devices' global sales organization. This role bridges technical expertise and commercial execution by providing application support, customer training, product demonstrations, and technical consultation throughout the sales process. Working closely with the Regional Sales Managers, Customer Experience, and Field Service teams, the TSM helps customers identify the right solution while advancing sales opportunities from technical discovery through order placement.
Description:
Technical Knowledge
Develops a technical understanding of FMD's products to assist customer technical teams Maintains advanced knowledge of FMD products, applications, industry standards, and competitive technologies
Sales Opportunity Development
Supports the identification, qualification, and advancement of sales opportunities by demonstrating FMD's technical advantages and application expertise. Conducts technical discovery discussions with customers to understand project requirements, purchasing timelines, decision-making processes, application challenges, and competitive landscape Supports achievement of sales bookings and revenue objectives by advancing assigned opportunities from technical qualification through purchase order Helps identify and pursue the development of new markets or product opportunities Evaluates market trends and gather competitive information affecting current and future growth Assists in forecasting annual, quarterly and monthly sales goals
Business Planning
Collaborates with the senior leadership team to establish and execute sales goals Assists in forecasting annual, quarterly, and monthly sales goals
Customer & Account Support
Provides account support for assigned customers and strategic opportunities while partnering with Regional Sales Managers and Field Service to advance customer projects Recommends appropriate prover configurations and technical solutions based on customer applications and operational requirements Collaborates with Customer Service, Engineering, and Sales to prepare quotations, technical proposals, and supporting documentation
Training & Customer Engagement
Delivers customer training, application seminars, product demonstrations, and technical presentations both virtually and on-site Represents FMD at trade shows, customer events, industry conferences, and technical seminars to promote products and develop business opportunities
Communication & Project Coordination
Documents customer requirements, project updates, and opportunity progress within CRM while maintaining project reporting for management Works closely with management and other departments concerning demos, literature, and field communication releases Establishes and maintains effective communication flow within the Sales, Customer Service, and Field Service departments
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Business, or related field preferred
  • 5+ years' experience in technical sales, applications engineering, field service, instrumentation, flow measurement, or related industrial equipment
  • Demonstrated track record of successfully supporting or achieving sales growth and customer satisfaction in a technical or industrial environments
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex technical concepts into practical customer solutions and effectively communicate value to both technical and commercial audiences
  • Experience conducting technical presentations, customer demonstrations, product training, and application reviews for customers or internal stakeholders
  • Experience supporting customers through the full sales cycle, including technical discovery, solution development, proposal preparation, opportunity management, and order execution
  • Ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships while effectively collaborating with cross-functional teams including Sales, Engineering, Customer Service, and Field Service
  • Strong consultative selling, problem-solving, and analytical skills with the ability to identify customer needs and recommend appropriate technical solutions
  • Strong project management sand organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple customer opportunities simultaneously
  • Experience documenting customer interactions and maintaining opportunity information within a CRM system; experience with Microsoft Dynamics is preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, verbal, presentation, and facilitation skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment
  • Ability to learn and retain complex technical product knowledge and remain current on industry trends, competitive products, and merging technologies
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and international as business needs require
