Job Description:
Microchip Technology has an opportunity for an Engineer II-Equipment (CMP Chemical Mechanical Planarization) at our Fab 4 facility in Gresham, Oregon. This role focuses on the operational health of specialized manufacturing tools while supporting the company's core framework of safety, continuous improvement, and "Vital Few" business priorities. The engineer installs, supports, and maintains semiconductor manufacturing equipment, responding to tool-down events and providing expert guidance to keep the fab operating reliably.
Essential Functions
  • Maintenance Execution: Write, edit, and audit standard operating procedures (SOPs), manuals, and specifications for preventative and predictive maintenance.
  • Parts & Inventory Optimization: Manage spare and consumable parts programs using cost-conscious principles to anticipate inventory needs or identify parts for rebuilding.
  • Advanced Troubleshooting: Diagnose equipment breakdowns and provide hardware/software guidance to support on-shift technicians for maximum uptime.
  • Quality Systems Integration: Support process engineering in identifying systemic issues through SPC (Statistical Process Control), PFMEA, and change control.
  • Cross-Functional Coordination: Interface with Site Services, Safety, Production, and vendors to execute tool modifications, moves, or new installations.

Requirements/Qualifications:
Required Qualifications
  • 4-year bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or an equivalent technical field.
  • 2.5-5 years of experience in equipment engineering for industrial automation.
  • Strong analytical proficiency and the ability to read technical documentation like schematics and logic diagrams.
  • Hands-on aptitude with electrical and mechanical tools, including volt meters and oscilloscopes.
  • Basic IT, software, and database management skills
  • Solid organizational, documentation, project management, and writing skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and proficiency in oral and written communication
  • A strong desire for personal continuous improvement and learning
  • Creative problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Self-directed, self-motivated

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience as an equipment technician or in factory automation.
  • Familiarity with robots, motion controllers (AC/DC), and programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
