Job Summary:
Supports the department by preparing exam areas, equipment, & materials. Assists with patient care under the direction of a licensed technologist. Provides clerical & office support as well as maintains inventory/supplies. Primarily responsible for patient transportation within the hospital.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Protects visual & other access to patient specific & other confidential information from public view-including computer screens.
  • Removes &/or shreds patient specific or other confidential information as per policy.
  • Passwords are never disclosed & computers are locked when not in use.
  • Reports sentinel events or adverse drug reactions or incidents as warranted.
  • Uses only approved abbreviations.
  • Understands patient safety goals & actions taken.
  • Reports to manager potential infectious diseases that may/may not compromise patient or team member health. Washes hands when soiled or contaminated.
  • Uses 2 patient identifiers before giving treatments, illustrates process.
  • Demonstrates awareness of patient rights.
  • Uses respect & dignity when dealing with death & dying.
  • Assist patients to & from the department.
  • Assist with exams when needed under the direction of the technologist.
  • Assist with setting up or removing equipment modalities.
  • Assist with patient transfers or positioning as needed utilizing proper body mechanics.
  • Assist with preparing patient for exams by the technologist.
  • Prep room or treatment area for next patient.
  • Keep area clean & safe for patients & staff.
  • Assists all modalities with patient care as requested.
  • Determines call direction in an accurate, efficient & friendly manner.
  • Takes accurate messages & delivers in a timely manner.
  • Orchestrates effective communication over multiple phone lines for both incoming & outgoing calls.
  • Retrieves/handles voicemail messages as appropriate in a timely manner.
  • Protects patient information in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Check patient charges for accuracy.
  • Utilize proper infection control practices to prevent the spread of communicable diseases. Such practices include proper hand washing, proper disposal of tissue, disinfecting equipment as needed, & cleansing of phone & other equipment with antiseptic cleanser as needed.
  • Cleans equipment after patient use & according to policy.
  • Maintains cleanliness of department as required.
  • Cleans exam rooms in a safe & efficient manner.
  • Takes inventory, orders & stocks department with linens & supplies.
  • Participates in departmental improvement projects as appropriate.
  • Actively participates in departmental meetings.
  • Stocks rooms with appropriate supplies as requested.
  • Takes responsibility for ordering & maintaining supplies & equipment as requested (patient supplies, clinical items.

Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Strong customer service skills, communicates well with others.
  • Able to problem solve & multi-task.
  • Demonstrates flexibility in switching job tasks from clerical to patient support.
  • Basic knowledge of setting up imaging modalities.
  • Prior medical/insurance experience preferred.
  • Able to operate computer & hospital equipment.

Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1 year relevant work experience.

Physical Requirements:
  • Frequent walking, standing, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, reaching, talking, & use of hands
  • Able to frequently lift over 50 lbs
