Job Description

The Department of Agricultural, Leadership, and Community Education at Virginia Tech seeks a self-motivated professional to provide program support for recruiting, marketing, admissions, advising, evaluation, and related functions across the department's undergraduate and graduate academic programs. The Academic Advisor will be expected to maintain broad knowledge of department academic programs, university policies and procedures, and student support services within the scope of the position.
Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Support the department's Undergraduate and Graduate Directors with academic program management, including data tracking, reporting, course planning, and institutional record keeping.
Maintain admissions and enrollment tracking systems, including support for Food and Agricultural Education Information System (FAEIS) survey preparation and entrance and exit survey data for enrolled students.
Serve as the primary point of contact for admissions and applicant inquiries, represent the department at recruiting events, and co-lead the department's ambassador program.
Monitor the full admissions lifecycle for undergraduate and graduate applicants, including responding to prospective student inquiries, tracking application materials, communicating with applicants, and supporting students through initial enrollment.
Distribute print and digital communication content to prospective and current students and maintain related communication systems, including student listservs.
Provide academic advising support for the First-Year Experience and Senior Seminar courses.
Fulfill other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Master's degree in a relevant field, such as agricultural education, agricultural communications, agricultural science, extension, education, or a related area; or an equivalent combination of advanced training and relevant work experience; Program support experience in an academic or professional office environment; Strong organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines; Proficiency with Microsoft Office software and related productivity tools; Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, colleagues, teams, and the public.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in higher education and admissions; Proficiency with SLATE Customer Relationship Management (CRM) or a comparable system; Working knowledge of university academic, fiscal, and operational policies and procedures; Experience managing student records or databases, such as Banner and/or Navigate; and Experience supporting online academic programs.
