What is a Teamsters job?

A Teamsters job refers to a position held by a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, a labor union representing a wide range of workers, including truck drivers, warehouse employees, and delivery personnel. Teamsters work in industries such as transportation, logistics, construction, and public services. They advocate for fair wages, benefits, and job security through collective bargaining. Many Teamsters jobs involve skilled labor and require union membership.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Teamsters position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Teamster, you need a valid commercial driver's license (CDL), solid knowledge of safety and transportation laws, and a good driving record. Familiarity with vehicle inspection checklists, GPS navigation systems, and basic maintenance tools is advantageous. Strong teamwork, communication skills, and a commitment to punctuality set top performers apart in this field. These attributes are crucial for reliable, safe transport of goods and effective collaboration with logistics teams.

What are the typical work schedules and environments for Teamsters?

Teamsters often work in a variety of environments, including warehouses, distribution centers, or on the road, depending on their specific role and employer. Work schedules can range from standard business hours to early morning, evening, or overnight shifts, especially for long-haul or delivery driving positions. It is common to work both independently and as part of a larger logistics team, coordinating with dispatchers, warehouse staff, and other drivers. Flexibility and adaptability are valuable since routes and workloads may change based on demand, season, or employer needs.

Job description

Proline | A Division of HPC Foodservice | Full-Time | Union Position

Teamsters Local 671 | Starting Rate: $29.05/hr | Avg. Annual Earnings: $79,000

Who We're Looking For

If you can walk into a commercial kitchen, size up a piece of equipment you may have never seen before, figure out what's wrong with it, and fix it, we want to talk to you. Proline technicians work independently in the field, build real relationships with customers, and take genuine pride in keeping professional kitchens running. This is skilled work, and we pay accordingly.

The Proline Technician 1 is our highest field technician classification. If you have the skills and the work ethic, there's also room to grow into training, mentorship, and leadership over time.

Compensation

Starting Rate: $29.05 per hour

Average Annual Earnings: $79,000 (includes overtime)

Overtime Pay: Available and consistent

On-Call Bonus: Paid when in rotation

What We Provide

  • Company vehicle
  • Company cell phone and tablet
  • Tool stipend
  • Service uniforms
  • Full medical and dental benefits
  • Life insurance
  • Paid time off (PTO)
  • Fully funded Teamsters pension. Proline contributes on your behalf with no employee contribution required.
  • Technical training and ongoing development

What the Job Looks Like

Most days you'll drive your company vehicle to three or four customer locations, diagnose the problem, get it fixed or order parts as needed, and move on. Our customers include restaurants, schools, hotels, grocery stores, country clubs, and healthcare facilities. You'll handle everything from routine preventative maintenance inspections to emergency service calls. No two days look exactly the same, and that's part of what makes this work satisfying.

This is a full-time position that includes participation in a shared on-call rotation for after-hours and weekend calls. On-call weeks are distributed across the team, and you're compensated with a bonus when it's your turn.

What We're Looking For

We'll train the right person. That said, here's what puts you ahead:

  • Background in electrical, HVAC, plumbing, or any mechanical trade
  • Experience working on commercial cooking equipment such as ovens, combi ovens, or fryers
  • Strong communication skills and a professional, respectful approach with customers
  • CFESA certification or training

What we require:

  • High school diploma
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to lift 75 lbs
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOT Medical Card
  • Basic English, math, and computer skills

If you make the short list, you'll complete a technical skills assessment as part of the interview process.
