This is a grant position. Employment beyond the grant is not guaranteed.
JOB SUMMARY
Work involves providing for the assessment, care, treatment, and general welfare of patients receiving services on the Forensic Assertive Community Treatment (FACT) Team. May train others as well as delegate to Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN). Works under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Under the supervision of the Director of Nursing, provides professional nursing services to FACT Team clients within the limits of Professional Licensure and provide assistance to other medical related services within the organization as needed. Responsible for performing assessments on all clients, help keep assessments updated, developing nursing care plans, providing interventions, and evaluating provision of nursing care. The nurse will be an integral part of helping coordinate medical health needs of clients. Frequent travel within the region is required, including home visits and community-based services. The nurse will participate in weekly meetings with team.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
General knowledge of psychiatric nursing principles and knowledge of principles, methods, procedures and practices of community mental health services. General knowledge of professional nursing techniques and procedures. Ability to work cooperatively with other service programs. Skill in the development of effective helping relationships. Ability to make effective assessments of and interventions in situations involving mental health services and clients. Ability to work effectively as a treatment team member. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to work under conditions requiring physical stamina and emotional stability. Ability to plan and execute work. Ability to exercise good judgment.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Education: Associate's degree in nursing from an accredited school of nursing. Bachelor's in nursing preferred.
Licensed to practice as a Registered nurse (RN) in the state of Texas
Experience: Two years' experience as a Registered Nurse preferred, experience in psychiatric nursing is preferred.
REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
Currently licensed and in good standing to practice by The State Board of Nursing.
A valid Texas driver's license and good driving record are required along with a copy of a valid auto insurance card.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, squat, lift 25 pounds, sit for an extended period, and reach overhead.
