Position Title:ย  Teaching Pastorย 

Functional Ministry Area(s):ย  Preaching, Teaching, and Spiritual Formationย 

Reports To:ย  Executive Pastorย 

FSLA Classification:ย  Full Time / Exempt / Salaryย 

Salary Range:ย ย 90-120K

Supervises:ย  No direct reports - collaboration across ministriesย 

Positionย Schedule:ย  Monday-Thursday, Sundaysย requiredย 

OVERVIEWย 

The Teaching Pastor is a gifted communicator and collaborative ministry leader who serves as part of Hillsideโ€™s teaching team. This role is for someone who brings theological depth, creative engagement, and pastoral warmth to gathering spaces. They are equally invested in developing the next generation of teachers and communicators at Hillside. The Teaching Pastor works closely with the Senior Pastor to shape the annual teaching calendar and ensure that Hillsideโ€™s teaching ministry is rooted in Scripture and responsive to the needs of the community.ย Theyย are committed toย the vision of seeing Godโ€™s hope transform our cities one story at a time, and the mission of experiencing Godโ€™s love, Growing in Community, Serving with Compassion, and Multiplying Impact.ย

RESPONSIBILITIESย 

Preaching and Teachingย 

  • Preach and teach regularly as part of Hillsideโ€™s weekend preaching rotation, delivering messages that are biblically faithful, pastorally relevant, and accessible to a broad audienceย 

  • Collaborate with the Senior Pastor to develop the annual teaching calendar, ensuring coherence and missional alignment across sermon seriesย 

  • Contribute to the creative and theological development of each series, including theme, arc, and applicationย 

Teaching Developmentย 

  • Identify, invest in, and coach emerging communicators across Hillsideโ€™s staff and volunteer baseย 

  • Create feedback rhythms and development pathways for those growing in teaching and preaching ministryย 

  • Champion a culture of continuous learning and improvement within Hillsideโ€™s teaching teamย 

  • Teach classes, seminars on theological Bible topics

Collaborative Ministryย 

  • Partner with ministry leads to ensure teaching content connects meaningfully with small groups, formation pathways, and congregational lifeย 

  • Contribute to staff devotionals, leadership gatherings, and formational moments as neededย 

  • Serve as a pastoral presence in the congregation, engaging relationally with members and guestsย 

Other duties as assigned.ย 

Education and/or Experience:ย 

  • Bachelorโ€™sย degreeย required.ย M.Div. or equivalent graduate degreeย stronglyย preferred.ย 

  • Demonstrated experience preaching and teaching in a local church settingย 

  • Proven ability to communicate biblical content accessibly to a broad, multigenerationalย congregationย 

  • Experience collaborating on sermon series development and teaching calendarsย 

Required Skills and Abilities:ย 

  • Exceptional communication skills. Engaging, theologically grounded, and culturally connected.ย 

  • Strong exegetical and hermeneutical skillsย 

  • Ability to give and receive honest feedback in a collaborative team environmentย 

  • Coaching instincts: able toย identifyย and develop emerging communicatorsย 

  • Strong writing skills for manuscript development, series planning, and curriculum inputย
