Job Summary
PRE-K AUXILIARY TEACHER
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School Diploma or Recognized Equivalent
  • One of the following:
    • Child Development Associate (CDA) credential
    • At least 9 credit hours of college coursework in Early Childhood Education or Child Development from a regionally accredited institution
REPORTS TO: PreK Lead Teacher and Principal
JOB GOAL:
To help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible men and women.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Follows all PreK First guidelines.
  • Assists with instruction of assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
  • Collaborates with the Lead Teacher to provide a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Guides students in the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and objectives established by the Lead Teacher.
  • Assists Lead Teacher in assessing the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and completes documentation as required.
  • Implements any specialized learning plans, accommodations, or modifications for students as required, under the direction of the Lead Teacher.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
  • Assists the Lead Teacher and administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and for the classroom, implements reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and assists with maintaining order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  • Serves as the chief source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the Lead Teacher.
  • Carries out assignments as directed by the Lead Teacher and administration.
  • Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully certified teachers.
  • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Participates in in-service training programs, as assigned.
  • Dresses and conducts oneself in a professional manner.
  • Works with colleagues to enhance school climate and overall academic program.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Nine (9) months unless otherwise determined by the board. Salary and work year to be established by the board.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of professional personnel and as directed by the Alabama State Department of Education personnel evaluation requirements.
