Christel House Indianapolis is currently seeking a part-time Adjunct Dual Credit Education Pathways Teacher for Watanabe High School to instruct the high school Teaching and Learning course aligned UIndy EDUC 255 course.
Preference will be given to applicants who can also instruct the Principles of Teaching course until late October or early November.
Days of Service: Aug 3 - May 28
Schedule: Tuesdays and Thursdays 10:00 - 11:35 and Fridays 10:45 - 11:40. Times and days shift some around holidays, delays, and cancellations. Conflicts that canโt be avoided will be worked out.
Requirements:
- Valid IN Teaching License and completion of, or pursuit of, an advanced degree in education.
- OR Past experience as a College Professor teaching Education courses
- Bachelorโs degree
- Willingness to be credentialed to teach dual credit or to work towards it
- Competency in using technology in the classroom setting.
- Ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis.
- A strong belief in the mission and goals of Christel House Indianapolis and Christel House International.
Watanabe High Schoolโs Education Professions Pathway consists of 3 courses: Principle of Teaching, Child and Adolescent Development, and Teaching and Learning. Students can begin the program with Principles of Teaching in 10th grade and complete the other 2 courses in 11th and 12th grade. The pathway is aligned with dual-credit courses at UIndy. Teachers at Christel House have the autonomy to try innovative strategies in their classrooms to reach all types of learners. Teachers support the whole child by teaching character education and social and emotional learning strategies to students, fostering their development beyond academics. Teachers are supported by interventionists, instructional coaches, lead teachers, on-site social workers and counselors, and a staff that thrives on collaborating and improving within the school community.
Job Tasks:
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging, standards-aligned lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessments that facilitate active learning.
- Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.
- Encourage and monitor individual students' progress, and use the information to adjust teaching strategies.
- Work closely with the school and UIndy personnel to align with UIndy course standards and logistics to support students also enrolled in UIndy, such as meeting with UIndy staff for training occasionally, rostering, and grade submissions.
- Encourage parent and community involvement, obtain information for parents when requested, conduct home visits, schedule student-led conferences, and promptly return phone calls and answer emails.
- Participate in appropriate professional activities.
- Ability and willingness to work collaboratively, maintaining cooperative and effective working relationships.
