About PTEC

Power Technical is a grades 6โ€“12 school preparing students for both college and skilled trades. We integrate core academics with hands-on learning in construction, welding, machining, electrical, plumbing, manufacturing, and CAD/Engineering. Students apply theory daily through real-world projects using our structured Direct Instruction model with coaching and lesson plan support.

Position Summary

PTEC is seeking a dedicated English Teacher to serve middle and high school students in a structured, career-connected learning environment. The ideal candidate will inspire students to become confident readers, writers, and communicators while helping them develop the literacy, analytical thinking, and communication skills needed for success in college, technical careers, and beyond.

At PTEC, English is more than reading and writingโ€”it is the foundation of effective communication in every profession. The successful candidate will connect literature, writing, speaking, and critical thinking to real-world applications, helping students develop the communication skills essential in engineering, manufacturing, construction, skilled trades, and today's workforce.

Responsibilities
  • Teach middle and high school English Language Arts aligned to Colorado Academic Standards.
  • Deliver instruction in literature, composition, grammar, vocabulary, and communication skills.
  • Foster strong reading comprehension, analytical thinking, effective writing, and oral communication.
  • Incorporate real-world reading and writing experiences that prepare students for college, technical education, and career pathways.
  • Collaborate with CTE instructors when appropriate to create interdisciplinary learning opportunities that integrate technical reading, professional writing, and workplace communication.
  • Monitor and assess student progress using a variety of formative and summative assessments.
  • Maintain a structured, positive classroom environment that promotes student success.
  • Communicate regularly with families and collaborate with colleagues.
  • Participate in required pre-service training and ongoing professional development.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in English, English Education, Literature, Secondary Education, or a related field.
  • Colorado teaching license or ability to obtain appropriate licensure preferred.
  • Teaching experience preferred.
  • Strong English Language Arts content knowledge and effective classroom management skills.
  • Ability to support diverse learners and create engaging, student-centered lessons.
  • Interest in integrating English Language Arts with Career and Technical Education (CTE) and real-world applications.

Schedule: Mondayโ€“Friday (In Person)

Salary

Salary Range: $35,000โ€“$55,000 annually (DOE and Qualifications)

Placement within the salary range is determined by education, licensure, and qualifications.

  • Starting at $35,000 โ€“ Candidates who do not yet meet Highly Qualified requirements and do not possess a bachelor's degree in the assigned content area or a passing PRAXIS score in the subject they will teach.
  • Starting at $45,000 โ€“ Candidates who hold a bachelor's degree in the assigned content area and/or have demonstrated subject competency by passing the appropriate PRAXIS examination or otherwise meeting Colorado Highly Qualified requirements.
  • Starting at $50,000 โ€“ Candidates who meet the above qualifications and hold a master's degree.
  • Starting at $55,000 โ€“ Candidates who meet the above qualifications and hold a doctoral degree.

Salary placement is determined by James Irwin Charter Schools based on education, licensure, subject-area qualifications, and applicable credentials.
