To thrive as a Traffic Control Person (TCP), you need knowledge of traffic regulations, safety procedures, and typically a recognized traffic control certification. Familiarity with two-way radios, personal protective equipment (PPE), and standard signage is important for daily operations. Strong situational awareness, clear communication, and the ability to remain calm under pressure are valuable soft skills in this role. These skills and qualifications are crucial for ensuring the safety of workers, motorists, and pedestrians at construction or roadwork sites.

What are TCP jobs?

TCP jobs typically refer to roles that involve working with the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP), a core protocol of the Internet protocol suite. Professionals in this field may work in network engineering, systems administration, or software development, focusing on ensuring reliable data transmission between devices over a network. These jobs often require knowledge of network protocols, troubleshooting network issues, and optimizing network performance. Common positions include network engineers, systems administrators, and network security specialists, all of whom must understand how TCP/IP works in practical settings.

What are the typical responsibilities of a Traffic Control Person (TCP) during a road construction project?

A Traffic Control Person (TCP) is primarily responsible for ensuring the safety of both workers and the public by directing vehicle and pedestrian flow around construction zones. This includes setting up and maintaining traffic signs, cones, and barriers, communicating with site supervisors about traffic patterns, and using hand signals or signage to guide drivers safely. TCPs often work outdoors in varying weather conditions and must stay alert to changing traffic situations. Collaboration with other TCPs and construction crew members is essential to adapt to any incidents or changes in the work zone.

TCP Specialist

Alaska E-Line Services

At Alaska E-Line Services, we operate across some of the most demanding and remote oilfield environments in Alaska. Our work spans from the North Slope and Prudhoe Bay to the Kenai Peninsula and Cook Inlet, supporting operations in both land-based and offshore environments.
Some locations are only minutes from our facilities, while others require travel by helicopter, bush plane, snow cat train, or boat. No two jobs are the same, and our personnel are expected to adapt to a wide range of operational challenges and environmental conditions.
Our teams support a broad range of wireline and completion services, including:

  • TCP (Tubing Conveyed Perforating) systems
  • Wireline perforating systems
  • Completion and intervention support
  • Bridge plugs and patch systems
  • Pipe recovery operations
  • Logging and diagnostic services

We are seeking highly motivated TCP Specialists who thrive in fast-paced, high-performance environments and take pride in executing critical completion operations safely and efficiently in some of the harshest - and most rewarding - oil and gas fields in the world.

General Duties & Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and execute TCP operations safely and efficiently
  • Oversee field operations to ensure the timely commencement and successful execution of customer work
  • Assist with assembly, maintenance, testing, and deployment of TCP and perforating systems
  • Ensure compliance with all explosives handling, storage, transportation, and operational procedures
  • Actively engage with supervisors, engineers, and field personnel to maintain service quality and operational performance
  • Troubleshoot operational and equipment-related issues in the field
  • Maintain and manage field supplies, explosives inventory, and operational equipment
  • Ensure all crew members utilize proper PPE and follow safe work practices at all times
  • Conduct daily safety meetings and communicate potential hazards, corrective actions, and safe work practices
  • Follow and enforce all company policies, procedures, and safety standards
  • Maintain accurate job documentation, operational reports, and inventory records
  • Ensure compliance with DOT, HazMat, and ATF regulations
  • Support equipment maintenance, operational readiness, and shop organization
  • Promote professionalism, teamwork, and strong customer relationships in the field

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements

  • Previous TCP, perforating, wireline, or completion operations experience preferred
  • Clean driving record for the past three (3) years with the ability to be insured
  • Must remain in good standing within the company's drug and alcohol testing program
  • Must be able to pass required background checks and maintain compliance with ATF regulations
  • Ability to work safely with explosives and hazardous materials
  • Ability to work in extreme weather and remote Alaska environments
  • Ability to travel for extended field assignments as operationally required
  • Strong troubleshooting, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work safely and effectively in high-pressure operational environments
  • Must remain current on all required training and certifications

What We're Looking For

  • Take pride in operational excellence and service quality
  • Work well under pressure in dynamic field environments
  • Adapt quickly to changing operational conditions
  • Value teamwork, accountability, and professionalism
  • Enjoy solving complex operational challenges
  • Want to build a career in Alaska's unique and demanding oilfield environment.

This position offers the opportunity to work with experienced crews, advanced completion systems, and diverse operations across Alaska while building a career in one of the industry's most challenging and rewarding environments.
