Job description

Position Summary...Assist the Global Tax Controversy Team and Global Tax Controversy Sr. Director in supporting tax controversies, tax appeals, and tax litigation. This position will provide the candidate with expertise and insight on complex tax matters and tax positions, including the communication and resolution of key tax matters on a global scale.
The Manager – Global Tax Controversy will assist the Global Tax Controversy Team in providing guidance and recommendations on complex international, U.S. federal and state tax matters. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to assist the Global Tax Controversy Team with the implementation of audit plans, the development of tax positions defenses, appeals hearing preparation, litigation strategies, drafting and reviewing legal agreements, management of outside counsel, and negotiation of final audit settlements. You will also assist the Global Tax Controversy Team conduct global risk assessments of complex tax transactions, and the assembling of necessary documentation to support the transaction activities.
About the Team
This is an opportunity to join a growing Global Controversy tax team and work on a global scale. You will serve as a key resource for Tax Controversy and drive value through the identification and resolution of issues and opportunities. In your partnership with local Tax Leadership, local markets, and global Tax SMEs you’ll offer technical support, assistance with identifying relevant alternative dispute strategies, and driving best practices across the markets.
Global collaboration will be key for this role, both outside the U.S. and within. In addition to market leadership, you’ll also partner with Walmart's International Counsels, external advisors, and serve as a key tax liaison with many different departments. Your enthusiasm to understand and learn our business operations and strategies, along with your zeal to collaborate will aid and support the development of local strategies ; execution plans, and then aid in the execution ; delivery of results.What you'll do...
  • Support the development of non-U.S. market strategies to successfully resolve non-U.S. tax controversies, including foreign country tax audits, tax appeals, and tax litigation.
  • Provide global insight, expertise, and oversee global governance on complex tax matters to our non-U.S. market leadership to ensure tax positions are thoroughly vetted, documented, and there is utmost integrity in our reporting for controversy matters.
  • Collaborate with non-U.S. markets and other Tax Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) in the implementation and execution of foreign audit plans and alternative dispute resolution strategies
  • Support the continuous improvement of global best practices, including the analysis ; documentation of uncertain tax positions, documentation of ongoing controversies, and risk mitigation efforts.
  • Monitor global tax developments to ensure we remain up to date on tax positions.
  • Support in the development and execution of audit plans that bring successful resolution to unresolved global controversies
What you’ll bring
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field required. Juris Doctorate, Master of Laws, MBA, or CPA license preferred. 
  • 2+ years’ experience in accounting, finance, income tax compliance, tax controversy or related area 
  • Intellectual curiosity with a desire to be a global collaborator. You can issue spot and know when to bring in other subject matter experts.
  • Ability to leverage your tax technical abilities to streamline our global risk assessment and tax position analysis processes
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
