Job description

General Statement of Duties Forsyth County's Tax Administration Department is seeking a highly motivated and service-oriented individual to join our team as a Sr. Tax Assistant. The primary purpose of this position is clerical support for the real estate appraisal department.

This position acts as the lead Tax Assistant in our MLS data verification project. This task includes accessing, examining, and understanding MLS data and then comparing it to the assessment data. An employee in this position should have a good understanding of this complex task and will often instruct and check the work of other Tax Assistants working on this project.

This job duty requires decisions to be made on changing the tax assessment records and the assessed values when necessary, without supervisory guidance. Additionally, this position performs data entry and value calculations including income approach entry and calculation on an as-needed basis. Employee assists the Tax Analyst in sale record creation and verification.

This position provides opportunities to attend classes, seminars, and workshops pertaining to NC Property Tax Legislation across the state. Potential for growth within the department. Distinguishing Features A successful candidate should have the following knowledge, skills and abilities: Ability to deal with others tactfully and courteously over the telephone and in person.

Ability to interpret and implement regulations, policies and procedures. Considerable knowledge of appropriate office practices and procedures. Considerable knowledge of the various functions within the Tax Assessor's Office.

Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees. Ability to type with accuracy at the speed required by the particular position. Ability to gather and give information and instructions regarding departmental policies and procedures based on inquiries, learn an in-depth knowledge of persons and functions of department.

Ability to plan, prioritize and organize work. Ability to communicate effectively in person and by telephone. Ability to operate modern office equipment.

Ability to record and review information. Minimum Education and Experience Graduation from high school or GED plus two years of clerical experience which includes at least one year of tax office experience. A higher education level may be considered as a substitution for all or part of the experience requirement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: Research and input correct data on property record cards. Consults deeds, tax and other maps, aerial photographs, zoning ordinances and other sources. Analyzes and reports discrepancies between conflicting sources.

Completes special projects as assigned by management. Assists with county-wide revaluation. Performs related work as required.
