We are seeking a Staff Accountant - Transportation Tax to join our Springfield, MO office. This role plays a key part in preparing tax filings for transportation clients, maintaining accurate financial records, and supporting tax planning initiatives.
The Staff Accountant will assist with quarterly estimates, S Corporation compliance, and specialized filings including 2290 and 1099s. This position also supports client communications related to tax matters and works closely with the team to deliver accurate, timely service.
Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare quarterly tax estimates and federal filings (Forms 1099 and 2290) for transportation clients
  • Assist with preparation of individual and business tax returns, including Schedule C and S Corporations
  • Support clients with S Corporation formations and related compliance filings
  • Research federal and state tax matters specific to the transportation industry
  • Collaborate with the Transportation Tax team to ensure timely completion of client engagements
  • Maintain accurate, organized workpapers in accordance with internal quality standards
  • Communicate with clients to gather documentation, provide updates, and deliver completed tax work
  • Assist with internal projects such as Beneficial Ownership Information (BOI) filings, RA renewals, and client retention tracking
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes and enhance client service
  • Ensure compliance with internal procedures and external regulatory requirements

  • S Corporation Knowledge: Supports entity setup, maintenance, and compliance requirements

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
  • 1-2 years of accounting experience, preferably in tax
  • CPA certification preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office required
  • Experience with QuickBooks (Desktop & Online), UltraTax, and AdvanceFlow preferred
  • Ability to pass a CJIS background check
