What is a taproom?

A taproom is a dedicated space, usually attached to a brewery, where customers can sample and purchase the brewery's beers directly from the source. Taprooms often feature a rotating selection of beers on tap, sometimes including limited releases or experimental brews not available elsewhere. They provide a casual setting for guests to enjoy fresh beer, often accompanied by food trucks, live music, or other events. Taprooms are a key part of many craft breweries, helping to build community and foster direct connections with customers.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Taproom Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Taproom Manager, you need strong customer service, inventory management, and hospitality skills, often supported by experience in food and beverage or bar management. Familiarity with POS systems, beverage dispensing equipment, and relevant certifications such as ServSafe are typically required. Excellent communication, leadership, and multitasking abilities help create a welcoming environment and manage staff effectively. These skills are crucial for delivering a positive guest experience, maintaining operational efficiency, and ensuring compliance with industry regulations.

How do I get a job at a brewery?

To get a job as a taproom staff member or brewery worker, you should look for openings on brewery websites or job boards, and prepare a resume highlighting customer service, hospitality, or brewing experience. Some roles may also require knowledge of beer styles or certifications like responsible alcohol service training.

What are the highest paying beverage jobs?

What jobs pay 10,000 a month without a degree?

In the context of a taproom or similar hospitality roles, earning $10,000 a month without a degree is uncommon. High earnings in such settings typically require managerial positions, ownership, or specialized skills like brewing or marketing, which may involve experience or certifications rather than formal degrees. Most entry-level taproom jobs pay hourly wages below that threshold, but advanced roles or business ownership can reach or exceed this income level.

What are some common challenges faced by taproom staff, and how can they be managed effectively?

Taproom staff often encounter challenges such as managing high customer volumes during peak hours, maintaining product knowledge across a rotating selection of beers, and ensuring compliance with alcohol service regulations. Effective communication with both the brewing team and customers is essential to provide accurate information and a positive experience. Regular training, teamwork, and a proactive attitude toward customer service help taproom staff navigate these challenges while fostering a welcoming atmosphere.

Description

Always Seeking Great Talent!

We accept applications year-round to build a pipeline of passionate hospitality and culinary professionals. While we may not have an immediate opening for this specific role today, we review all applications. If your background and energy align with what we're looking for, we will keep your resume on file and reach out when an opportunity arises!

About Warped Wing Brewing Company & Smokery

Our menu showcases a fusion of traditional American BBQ with a warped twist, naturally. We're not afraid to experiment, yet our menu is approachable enough to please any palate. We combine the time-honored smoking techniques with the same quality & care of our beers, and we think that's what makes us stand out. But, we're not just any restaurant - we're a gathering place & experience. Whether you're a smoked meat aficionado or just starting your culinary journey - our warped take on tradition promises an experience that transcends the ordinary.

Summary

At Warped Wing, we are more than just a brewery; we are a culinary destination centered on our Smokery. The Assistant Taproom Manager is a "lead-from-the-front" position. You will balance dedicated management shifts with active server/bartender shifts. You must be fully prepared to step into the FOH Manager's responsibilities in their absence .

Core Priorities

  1. Exceptional service is our baseline; a "Warped" memorable experience is our goal.
  2. You lead with respect and clear communication to foster a high-performance culture.
  3. You are an expert on both our smoked meat profiles and our extensive drink list (beer, seltzers, and housemade sodas).

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Actively promote the Smokery menu as the primary guest attraction; ensure staff can articulate smoke profiles and food-to-beer pairings.
  • Maintain high standards for food presentation and service speed, ensuring dishes and drinks are delivered with synchronized timing.
  • Address any feedback with radical professionalism and a "Guest First" mindset.
  • Execute all functions of the Taproom FOH Manager in their absence, including opening/closing, safety checks, and staff supervision.
  • Transition seamlessly between managing the floor and serving/bartending with high energy and technical precision.
  • Manage cash handling, daily sales reconciliation, and help the team hit revenue and upselling targets.
  • Utilize POS systems, inventory management tech, and digital communication tools with ease.
  • Review sales data to identify trends and help the FOH Manager adjust schedules or promotions for maximum efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Previous leadership in a high-volume restaurant or hospitality environment; strong knowledge of BBQ/Smokery operations is a major plus.
  • Ability to master modern hospitality tech and POS systems.
  • A dedication to "Radical Respect"-treating all staff (FOH & BOH) and guests with dignity and professional courtesy.
  • Proven ability to remain calm and composed in a fast-paced "smokery and taproom" environment.
  • A genuine love for Ohio-driven innovation, smoked meats, and the craft beverage industry.
