Job Description: Taping Foreman

Position Overview

The Taping Foreman serves as the on-site leader and company representative for drywall finishing operations. This role is responsible for supervising crew performance, ensuring high-quality workmanship, and completing projects on schedule in coordination with the Taping Superintendent.

Reporting Structure

  • Reports To: Taping Superintendent
  • Position Type: Full-Time (classification based on company policy)

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Supervision

  • Lead and supervise drywall taping crews to ensure productivity, quality, and efficiency.
  • Assign daily tasks and monitor progress to meet project deadlines.
  • Provide hands-on technical guidance and troubleshoot job site challenges.
  • Maintain accountability for crew performance and workmanship.

Quality Assurance

  • Inspect ongoing work to ensure it meets company and project standards.
  • Identify deficiencies and ensure timely corrections.
  • Maintain the same level of production and craftsmanship as a Journeyman Taper/Finisher.

Project Coordination

  • Communicate regularly with the Taping Superintendent regarding progress, issues, and job conditions.
  • Report and assist in resolving issues involving general contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, or inspectors.
  • Coordinate manpower needs and workflow planning.
  • Ensure proper materials, tools, and equipment are available on-site.

Equipment & Materials Management

  • Oversee delivery, unloading, and proper storage of materials.
  • Track and manage company-owned and rented equipment.
  • Ensure all tools and equipment are maintained and in good working condition.

Safety & Compliance

  • Enforce OSHA regulations and company safety policies on-site.
  • Monitor job site conditions to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Ensure all crew members adhere to project-specific safety rules and guidelines.

Additional Duties

  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support project and company goals.

Qualifications

Education & Certifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid driverโ€™s license and ability to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Required certifications and training to be completed within the first year of employment.

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in residential or commercial drywall finishing.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience using automatic taping tools to produce high-quality finishes.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of drywall finishing materials, methods, and tools.
  • Effective leadership and team supervision skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Ability to analyze problems and implement practical solutions.
  • Ability to follow instructions and company procedures.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry up to 120 lbs.
  • Capable of standing, bending, reaching, and working overhead for extended periods.
  • Ability to climb ladders, scaffolding, and work at heights.
  • Comfortable working on uneven surfaces and using drywall stilts.
  • Ability to operate scissor lifts and taping equipment safely.
  • Vision sufficient to inspect detailed finish work (with or without corrective lenses).

Work Environment

  • Work is primarily conducted on residential and commercial construction sites.
  • Work may occur in varying indoor conditions and temperatures.
