What are some common challenges Craft Assemblers face in maintaining quality and consistency in their work?

Craft Assemblers often work with intricate components and materials, requiring a high level of attention to detail and dexterity. One common challenge is ensuring that each assembled product meets exact specifications and quality standards, especially when working on custom or limited-run items. Variations in materials or minor errors can impact the final product, so frequent quality checks and good communication with team members are essential. Staying organized and following standardized procedures help Craft Assemblers uphold consistency and avoid rework, which is vital for both individual satisfaction and team productivity.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Craft Assembler, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Craft Assembler, you need strong manual dexterity, attention to detail, and experience with basic hand tools, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Patience, teamwork, and effective communication are important soft skills that help ensure precision and efficiency. These skills are crucial for producing high-quality products, maintaining safety, and meeting production deadlines in manufacturing environments.

Craft Assembler

Allied Maker

Glen Cove, NY โ€ข On-site

$32/hr

Full-time

Posted 10 days ago

Job description

Allied Maker builds lighting by hand as a practice. Every fixture that leaves our facility has been touched, tested, and finished by a person who understood what they were making and why it mattered.

We're looking for someone who wants to be that person.

The Work

You'll assemble handcrafted lighting fixtures โ€” pendants, sconces, chandeliers โ€” from raw components to finished product. This is bench work. It requires patience, dexterity, attention to detail, and a genuine interest in making things correctly.

You'll read technical drawings, work with hand tools and precision instruments, and interpret assembly specifications. You'll handle components that have been finished by our metal finishing team and are expected to protect that work through every stage of assembly. You'll work alongside a small team in a purpose-built shop floor where craft is taken seriously.

As you develop, you'll take on more complex fixtures and contribute to how we refine our processes. There is a direct line between the quality of your work and the quality of what ships.

What We're Looking For
  • Some hands-on experience: woodworking, metalworking, electronics, auto, fabrication, or similar. We care more about your relationship to making things than your resume.
  • Fine motor precision and comfort working at a bench for extended periods
  • Ability to read and follow technical diagrams and assembly documentation
  • High personal standard for finished quality โ€” you notice when something is off
  • Reliable, on-time, and self-directed once given clear instruction
  • Curiosity about materials, process, and how things work
Compensation & Benefits
  • Above-market hourly pay, reviewed as your skills grow
  • A real craft environment with varied, complex work
  • Direct exposure to the full lifecycle of a luxury manufactured product
  • A small team where your contribution is visible and valued
  • A company that is growing, with room to grow with it
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
  • On-site at Allied Maker Studio in Glen Cove, NY
  • Bench work in a purpose-built manufacturing environment
  • Requires fine motor dexterity and ability to work at a bench for extended periods
  • Closed-toe footwear required in shop areas
