Job description

Director, Global Mobility (People & Places)
San Mateo, CA | Hybrid (2 days onsite per week)

About the Role
Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) is seeking a Director, Global Mobility to lead the strategy, design, and execution of global mobility programs supporting our international workforce. This role is critical to enabling SIE's global talent strategy - ensuring employees can move across borders efficiently, compliantly, and with a best-in-class employee experience while managing the complex tax, immigration, payroll, and legal considerations that come with a global entertainment and technology business.
This is a highly strategic leadership role responsible for modernizing and scaling SIE's global mobility function. The Director will define and evolve global mobility strategy, strengthen governance and operating models, and build scalable programs that enable business growth and support a globally distributed workforce. As a member of the Total Rewards Leadership Team, this role will help shape how mobility integrates with SIE's broader Total Rewards strategy while serving as a trusted advisor to senior leaders across the business.
What You'll be Doing
  • Own and evolve SIE's global mobility strategy and programs, including long- and short-term assignments, permanent transfers, business traveler compliance, and cross-border remote work arrangements.
  • Design, implement, and continuously improve global mobility policies, governance, operating models, and scalable processes that deliver a consistent, compliant employee experience across all regions.
  • Build, formalize, and optimize global mobility workflows, case management practices, and service delivery models, modernizing the function where opportunities exist.
  • Partner with HR Business Partners, Talent Acquisition, Legal, Tax, Finance, Payroll, and business leaders to support organizational growth, strategic hiring, studio acquisitions, and cross-regional talent mobility.
  • Manage relationships with external vendors, including relocation providers, immigration counsel, tax advisors, and destination service providers, while overseeing RFPs, contract negotiations, and service performance.
  • Ensure compliance with global immigration requirements, tax equalization/protection policies, social security totalization agreements, payroll obligations, and other cross-border employment regulations.
  • Build and lead a high-performing global mobility team while fostering scalable processes, operational excellence, and continuous improvement as the function evolves.
  • Oversee mobility budgeting, forecasting, cost projections, reporting, and program analytics to drive informed business decisions and maximize program effectiveness.
  • Serve as the executive advisor on global workforce mobility strategy, balancing talent objectives, employee experience, compliance, cost, and business risk while recommending practical solutions to complex mobility challenges.
  • Lead the evolution of mobility technology by driving process automation, workflow optimization, reporting, analytics, vendor technology adoption, and case management improvements.
  • Represent global mobility priorities within the Total Rewards Leadership Team, ensuring alignment with broader compensation, benefits, and workforce strategies.
What We're Looking for
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in global mobility, international HR, or a related field, including people leadership.
  • Demonstrated experience designing or transforming enterprise global mobility programs, including governance, policy frameworks, operating models, and scalable processes; not simply administering established programs.
  • Deep knowledge of international tax equalization, immigration processes, payroll considerations, and compliance frameworks across major markets, including the U.S., Europe, and APAC.
  • Experience managing global mobility programs for a multinational organization, ideally within technology, media, gaming, or entertainment.
  • Proven ability to lead organizational change, influence stakeholders, and drive adoption of new programs, processes, and technology.
  • Demonstrated success influencing senior leaders and driving decisions within a highly matrixed global organization.
  • Strong vendor management, negotiation, and relationship management skills.
  • Experience partnering with Legal, Tax, Payroll, and Finance on complex cross-border compliance matters.
  • Proven track record of building, scaling, or transforming global mobility programs and teams.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management, communication, and executive advisory skills.
  • Bachelor's degree required; Global Mobility Specialist (GMS), GPHR, or other relevant certifications are a plus.
  • Experience supporting Japan-specific mobility programs (e.g., shukko assignments, Japanese tax and social security coordination) is highly desirable given SIE's relationship with Sony Group.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally approximately once per quarter to support global mobility operations and regional stakeholder engagement.
