Job Title: TACMED Staff Instructor

Position Description: Tactical Medic - Staff Instructor

Position Number: 0106S Pay Grade: 13/5 Courses Taught: Tactical Medical (TacMed)

Position Overview

The TACMED Staff Instructor is a tactical medical professional responsible for delivering hands-on training in tactical medical procedures to personnel across various operational teams. This role is essential in preparing trainees for high-stress, emergency response situations, where medical intervention is critical to mission success and personnel survival. The TACMeD Staff Instructor will leverage their extensive field experience to provide scenario-based instruction, focused on life-saving techniques in high-risk environments, including active shooter situations, casualty extractions, and trauma care under fire.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Training Delivery: Conduct instructional sessions for TacMed courses, with an emphasis on tactical medical response skills for law enforcement, military, and emergency responders. Key areas include hemorrhage control, airway management, rapid trauma assessment, casualty extraction, and tactical field care.
  • Scenario-Based Exercises: Design and lead real-world scenario simulations that reflect high-intensity tactical environments, preparing students to respond effectively in field conditions.
  • Skills Assessment: Evaluate student proficiency through practical assessments, providing critical feedback to build core competencies in life-saving skills.
  • Course Preparation and Logistics: Oversee the preparation, organization, and breakdown of training environments, ensuring all required medical and tactical equipment is available, functional, and safe.
  • Continued Professional Expertise: Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the latest tactical medical practices and protocols, incorporating advancements into training content and delivery.

Mandatory Qualifications

  • Experience:
    • Minimum of eight (8) years of work experience as a Tactical Field Medic. This experience may include roles as a Field Medic (e.g., Military, Navy Corpsman, or Army Combat Medic), SWAT Medic, FBI Hostage Rescue Team (HRT) Medic, or EMT with tactical medical experience.
    • Demonstrated application of tactical medical expertise, either through continuous practical experience or in a teaching/instructional setting.
  • Certification Requirements:
    • If there has been a professional gap of five (5) or more years in applying tactical medical expertise, candidates must provide either:
      • A current State or National Registry of EMT (NREMT) Paramedic or Advanced EMT Certificate, or
      • A current NAEMT Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) Instructor Certification.

  • Safety and Compliance: Ensure all training adheres to established safety protocols and medical standards.
  • Documentation and Records: Maintain detailed records of student performance, course evaluations, and training outcomes for continuous improvement.
