What is a tactical automated security system?

Tactical Automated Security Systems (TASS) are integrated security solutions used by military and government agencies to provide real-time surveillance and protection for critical assets and perimeters. These systems typically include sensors, cameras, radar, and control centers to detect and respond to potential intrusions or threats. TASS is designed to be rapidly deployable and adaptable to various environments, making it ideal for both permanent and temporary security operations. The system enhances situational awareness and helps security personnel respond quickly and effectively to security incidents.

What does a tactical automated security system operator do?

As a TASS operator, your daily responsibilities include monitoring and maintaining automated security systems, responding to alarms, and conducting routine system checks to ensure operational integrity. You may also be tasked with troubleshooting equipment, coordinating with security or military personnel to address potential threats, and documenting any incidents or system malfunctions. Collaboration with other security team members and providing technical support for system upgrades or repairs are also common parts of the role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a tactical automated security system operator?

To thrive as a Tactical Automated Security System (TASS) Operator, you need knowledge of security principles, electronic surveillance, and often a background in law enforcement or military security. Familiarity with radar, sensors, CCTV systems, and specialized TASS software is crucial, along with any required military or vendor certifications. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication skills help operators assess threats and coordinate responses efficiently. These skills are critical for maintaining situational awareness, ensuring rapid threat detection, and protecting sensitive assets in high-security environments.

You will play a key role in integrating security throughout the software development lifecycle by building Infrastructure as Code (IaC), containerized platforms, and automated CI/CD pipelines aligned with DoD security requirements. If you enjoy solving complex infrastructure challenges and building secure, scalable systems in highly regulated environments, this role is for you. In this role you will: * Design, implement, and maintain secure DevSecOps environments supporting mission-critical applications and systems. * Develop and manage Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, and Ansible. * Build, deploy, and maintain containerized applications and platforms using Docker and Kubernetes. * Design, automate, and optimize CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, Azure DevOps, or similar tools. * Support hybrid infrastructure environments spanning VMware and cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, and GCP. * Integrate security tooling into CI/CD pipelines, including vulnerability scanning, secrets management, and automated security testing. * Implement and maintain systems in accordance with DoD cybersecurity requirements, including RMF, NIST 800-53, and STIGs. * Develop automation using Python, Bash, or PowerShell while troubleshooting infrastructure, deployment, and security issues across complex environments. Qualifications: * Active TS/SCI Security Clearance. * 8+ years of experience in DevSecOps, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related engineering discipline. * Strong experience implementing Infrastructure as Code using tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, and/or Ansible. * Hands-on experience with containerization and orchestration technologies, including Docker and Kubernetes. * Experience designing, implementing, or maintaining CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, Azure DevOps, or similar technologies. * Experience supporting hybrid infrastructure environments, including VMware and cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP. * Strong understanding of security compliance frameworks and requirements, including RMF, NIST 800-53, and STIGs. * Experience integrating security tooling into DevSecOps pipelines, including vulnerability scanning, secrets management, and other automated security controls. * Proficiency in at least one scripting or programming language such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell. * Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to work across software, infrastructure, cloud, and cybersecurity teams. Desired Qualifications: * Experience supporting SIEM and/or EDR platform migrations. * Knowledge of Zero Trust Architecture principles and implementation approaches. * Experience with service mesh technologies and secure microservices architectures. * Experience supporting classified, enclave-based, disconnected, or air-gapped environments. * Experience implementing GitOps methodologies for infrastructure and application deployment. * Previous experience supporting DoD, Intelligence Community, or other federal government environments.
