Job description

Modern Technology Solutions, Inc. (MTSI) is seeking a highly experienced Systems Engineer Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support government programs by providing technical leadership, expertise, and strategic insights. This role involves acting as a SETA contractor, collaborating closely with government technical teams to drive program success through efficient planning, execution, and risk management. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in systems engineering, with proven experience in government or defense-related projects, and the ability to draw on independent research and past expertise to address complex technical, policy, and programmatic challenges.
As a Systems Engineer SME, you will be required to have a deep understanding of systems integration, risk assessment, and program management in a government context. The SME will act as a key advisor, ensuring alignment between technical efforts and program goals.
As the Systems Engineering SME for MTSI, you will be responsible for the following:
Lead Day-to-Day Technical Efforts: Oversee and direct daily technical activities as identified by the Government, including planning, reviewing, guiding, analyzing, and documenting processes to ensure efficient achievement of program objectives. This includes coordinating cross-functional teams, identifying bottlenecks, and implementing solutions to maintain momentum.
Provide Subject Matter Expertise: Serve as a primary technical advisor to the Government's team, fostering shared understanding and promoting streamlined execution. Offer guidance on best practices, emerging technologies, and systems engineering principles to enhance team performance and decision-making.
Contribute to Program Planning and Execution: Deliver insightful contributions to the Government's program strategy across critical areas, including technical risks, policy implications, and programmatic challenges. Leverage independent research, industry trends, and prior experience to identify potential issues, recommend mitigation strategies, and support long-term planning.
Additional duties may include:
*Conducting technical reviews and audits to validate system designs and implementations.
*Preparing reports, briefings, and documentation for government stakeholders.
*Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to integrate technical solutions with policy and regulatory requirements.
*Staying abreast of advancements in systems engineering and related fields to inform program decisions.
Qualifications:
*A minimum of 15 years in systems engineering or related field, with at least 10 years in a leadership or SME role on government run programs.
*Demonstrated experience leading technical efforts in complex, multi-stakeholder environments.
*Proven track record in risk assessment and management across multi-domains (technical, policy, and programmatic).
*Experience with independent research, including analyzing industry reports, academic papers, and emerging technologies.
*Overseeing Technical Execution of Development Efforts.
Desired Requirements:
*Defining Technical Architectures, especially for complex systems-of-systems.
*Establishing Organizational Systems Engineering Policy.
*Establishing Integrated Test and Transition Strategy for organizational efforts.
*Supporting advanced Modeling and Simulation Activities.
*Expertise in systems engineering methodologies.
*Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
*Excellent communication skills, including the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
*Proficient in writing documentation and reporting with attention to detail.
*Ability to work independently while collaborating in a team setting.
Education Requirements:
*Bachelor's degree in Engineering that may include Aerospace Engineering, Space Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Network Engineering or a related field.
*Advanced degree (Master's or PhD), desired.
Clearance Requirements:
*TS/SCI security clearance required to start, and must be SAP eligible.
*U.S. Citizenship is required for this position.
