Systems Engineer โ€“ SME Location: Huntsville, AL
Clearance Required: Active Top Secret
Experience Level: SME (Minimum 10 years)
Education Required: Bachelorโ€™s degree (B.S. or B.A.) Position Overview: We are seeking a Systems Engineer โ€“ SME to support complex IT infrastructure and system engineering projects in Huntsville, AL. The ideal candidate will possess strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Windows environments, system integration, virtualization technologies, and information security compliance. This role includes design, implementation, and maintenance of enterprise systems and network infrastructure in support of mission-critical operations. Key Responsibilities: Supervise, coordinate and/or design, develop and perform additions and changes to network hardware, infrastructure server environments, and operating systems, and attached devices, including investigation, analysis, recommendation, configuration, installation, and testing of new network hardware and software.
Conduct analysis, configuration, testing, and deployment of new hardware and software, ensuring performance and security compliance.
Provide direct operations support for infrastructure components including system performance evaluation, problem resolution, and hardware/software diagnostics.
Troubleshoot issues at both the physical and logical levels, including network protocol analysis (e.g., TCP/IP) and physical device inspection.
Participate in the planning, design, review, and deployment of network and system upgrades, including voice and data systems.
Support systems integration, virtualization, and network administration tasks.
Maintain systems in accordance with security standards, including application of approved patches and updates.
Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and quick reference guides.
Support and help navigate system accreditation processes, including tasks associated with certification and documentation.
Provide top-level technical expertise in support of client/server environments, including strategy development and infrastructure design.
Advise on hardware/software procurement, system upgrades, and future-state architectures.
Assist with FISMA compliance, including application of NIST 800-53 controls and participation in security documentation processes. Required Qualifications: 10+ years of experience in systems engineering, infrastructure support, or network administration.
Strong background with Microsoft Windows and Active Directory environments.
Understanding of NIST 800-series publications and FISMA compliance practices.
Bachelorโ€™s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
Active Top Secret Clearance required. Certifications: Microsoft Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate
VMware Certified Professional โ€“ Data Center Virtualization (VCP-DCV)
Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP)
Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) Preferred Qualifications: Experience with VMware vSphere 7 and virtualization infrastructure.
Familiarity with Cisco networking and network troubleshooting.
Hands-on experience with Dell server hardware and SAN storage systems.
Exposure to system accreditation and authorization (ATO) processes, particularly those involving the FBI.
Experience evaluating, documenting, and managing NIST 800-53 control implementations.
Experience with Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) tools such as RiskVision, Xacta, or JCAM.
